Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 4hConclusion: This is one of Argento’s weaker films; the cast was bland, the music is abrupt, and the story is scattered around like a jigsaw puzzle. The pretty trippy visuals can only go so far before people realize how confusing it can get. Overall Score: 4 cats out of 10 000
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 4hSpeaking of scenes, the movie has such a bad habit in dragging some scenes out for too long, it feels like someone forgot to hit cut. We don’t need someone do some kind of process step by step, just get to the point! Was it to pad the runtime, Argento? Why would you do this? 7/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 4hThe music, man, the music has to be bipolar because the way it just blasts into your ear during a scene where it needs to be quiet or eerie is staggering! The soundtrack blares into your eardrums when you want some form of tension in a scene. It baffles me that there’s no volume control. 6/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 4hMeanwhile, the other characters, even those I originally thought were the main characters, only exist to die moments later, but they look far more interesting than what we have! Not a shred of character development or personality that made me care about them. 5/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 4hThe characters are… kinda there, especially the main character, Mark. In fact, he’s by far the most nothing character I’ve ever seen. He’s a walking plank of wood with nothing to do besides a few revelations to the mystery. Nothing really stands out about him! 4/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 4hMy main problem is, well, there’s a lot of problems, but the main one is how much of an incoherent mess the story is. It feels so jumbled around that legit forgot the premise as a whole. Movie’s nearly two hours long, and didn’t show enough of the plot, or it’s too convoluted. 3/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 4hThis was certainly an odd one to review. Granted, there are story beats that did intrigue me for the most part, and the atmosphere and set design were otherworldly! I love the use of lighting to emit a sense of dread in the film, which is something I noticed from his past films. 2/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 4hEighth film is Inferno (1980) An American student investigates the disappearance of his sister and the death of a friend, both connected from New York to Rome by an old alchemy book. This is the third film I've reviewed from director Dario Argento, who did Suspiria and Tenebrae. 1/ 100

Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Conclusion: It's certainly a Stephen King film, with themes and tropes you expect from it. It has an interesting premise, but it feels more like an early rendition of Malignant (iykyk). Overall Score: 6 switchblades out of 10 000
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Some of the scenes can be unintentionally comedic whenever they try to do something scary or unnerving, and some of the actor's delivery can be funny at times. Finally, the birds. Why birds? What do birds have to do with outing those who found out your pseudonym? 6/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Now, let's talk about the other stuff. First off, no disrespect to Michael Rooker, but the cop character is a dumbass, so are the other police in this movie. They have the power to do something, and they still fuck it up. Seems just as accurate as they are now. 5/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Some of the actors did pretty well, including the main actor. I'm also amazed seeing a young Michael Rooker here, I wasn't expecting that at all! This was certainly one of his early roles before The Walking Dead and James Gunn's GotG. 4/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 08/10/2026First off, I didn't know this was directed by George A. Romero, the man behind "Night of the Living Dead!" Consider me surprised he's directing AND writing this adaptation, just as surprised as seeing David Cronenberg directing "The Dead Zone," another Stephen King adaptation. 3/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Basically, the original book is supposed to be Stephen King's response to people outing him when he was under the pseudonym "Richard Bachmann." Now he wrote a story and is eventually adapted into a full-length movie! Watching this was certainly an experience, with positives and negatives. 2/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Seventh movie is The Dark Half (1993) A writer's fictional alter ego wants to take over his life...at any price. It wasn't originally on my list, but saw it with a couple friends on Discord, and man, it is... something. In a weird way. 1/ 110

Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Conclusion: Please go into this blind, and give me your thoughts! This has dumbfounded me by the amount of love and care it went to the production! This is the kind of film AI can NEVER replicate! Overall Score: 9 honey jars out of 10 000
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Note that underneath the fairy-tale aspect that encompasses the majority of the film, there's also a sense of malevolence lurking within the film. If you don't know the history behind some of the elements in the film, let me tell you, it's incredibly disturbing. 7/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 07/10/2026The movie also comes in both languages; Spanish and German. Trust me, you'll understand why once you see this. Sometimes it switches from one language to another, as an interesting transition when it comes to speaking to another character. 6/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 07/10/2026This feels like the kind of movie you accidentally come across, and afterwards, you feel like you were cursed. Everything feels so unnatural and uncomfortable, yet mesmerizing and entertainingly unique, you can't look away until the very end. 5/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 07/10/2026There's a lot of motifs behind this film, but I can't spoil it here because it ruins the expectations when anyone goes to see it. The way it was somewhat laid out in the beginning, and you're suddenly lost within a fairy-tale. The sense of psychological and supernatural horror is pungent here! 4/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 07/10/2026There's also a fantastic mix of animation styles here, from paintings to paper-mache, and the whole environment changes with these art styles! At specific points, it makes some models looks incredibly uncanny, which adds to the eeriness of the film's main theme. 3/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Alright, Chile, I wasn't aware of your game. This was a fantastic, yet extremely avant-garde movie, clocking in at 74 minutes (hour and 14 minutes). The fact they did so much in that timeframe is nothing short of extraordinary, it makes me wonder how long it actually took to make it! 2/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Sixth film is The Wolf House (La Casa Lobo) (2018) Tells the story of Maria, a young woman who takes refuge in a house in southern Chile after escaping from a German colony. No spoilers, I mean it. Go in without knowing anything. Don't look at images or trailers. Just watch it. 1/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Conclusion: Pet Sematary is one of those films where it's slightly remember for some scenes, and a song made for it. Haven't seen the remake yet, but I doubt it did the original justice. I might be wrong, who knows? Overall Score: 7 trucks out of 10 000
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 06/10/2026The movie's by no means a masterpiece, sometimes the pacing can drag on, and the buildup often takes forever. Some of the actors don't feel authentic enough, and at times, some supposedly morbid scenes make it look unintentionally hilarious. Yet, I still had fun with it! 6/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I also like most of the cast here; Fred Gwynne (Henry Munster) is definitely the stand out in this film. The main character, Louis Creed, though not bad, he did give some funny deliveries, like how he talked to a zombie cat and said "food😐". Something about it got me chuckling. 5/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 06/10/2026The practical makeup and effects still look surprisingly well for 1989! I only wish we get more of these in modern times, because we're truly missing out on this. The way they look bloody and gross with all the pus and ooze, it's very well done on the prosthetic makeup. 4/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Of course, no Stephen King film is safe from the traditional tropes, however, this film doesn't have that many, but there are still some: child with unexplained psychic powers, haunted/supernatural places, location in Maine, and a King cameo? You don't see that in most King movies. 3/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 06/10/2026It's honestly quite a surprise to see this film again, and after rewatching it, I've warmed up to it. I won't go into spoiler territory unless you've read the book, but it does show how grief can drive one man into a downward spiral just to keep his loved ones with him. 2/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Fifth movie is Pet Sematary (1989) After tragedy strikes, a grieving father discovers an ancient burial ground behind his home with the power to raise the dead. Haven't seen this film in years, but I remember getting angry at the ending. However, despite that, it fits the theme of grief. 1/ 110

Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Conclusion: Undertone was slightly underwhelming, but I do like what it was trying to do for its directorial debut. Hopefully, the next movie the director makes would actually be somewhat better and even more ambitious. Overall Score: 6 audio files out of 10. 000
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 05/10/2026At times, I do try to keep an open mind when it comes to films being hyped up to fucking Neptune being either "the greatest film ever" or "the scariest movie you'll ever hear," because I want to see if it was true. I wouldn't call this film "the scariest", but I do appreciate its ambition. 13/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Yes, I'll admit, there were moments where I was rocking like a buoy on the beach, but it's mainly because of the sound design throwing off my audio sensory. There were unsettling scenes that made me shake, but there's mostly no payoff to those buildups. 12/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I learned that this film was made with a small budget ($500k), so there's only so much they can do with it, and it seems like it paid off! It got people interested, regardless of the polarizing reviews, but did this film affect me as much as Skinamarink did? Unfortunately, it did not. 11/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I know there's Evy's mother, who is catatonic in bed, and has to take care of because she knows her time is coming. However, we don't know much about her mother nor their relationship. Were they close? Estranged? I'm certain there are clues, but the whole audio horror thing distracted me. 10/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 05/10/2026It all comes down to chemistry, I don't buy the relationship between Evy and Justin. It feels a little scripted, because I don't feel anything because I don't know much of their partnership, and any kind of connection between them feels forced. They only talk when they're doing the podcast. 9/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Evy and her friend, Justin, who is never seen visually, are hosts of a paranormal podcast show, listening to stories and reports on supernatural stuff, and they get to declare if it's a hoax or not. On paper, it does sound interesting, it's the execution that bothers me a bit. 8/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 05/10/2026There will also be different voices playing either in the background, or right in your ear canal as if it's whispering to you in person. I can get around good sound design in a movie, especially in a horror film. However, it can only do so much if the main cast don't seem to be that interesting. 7/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Now, with Undertone, it relies heavily on sound. As someone with keen hearing, the film did successfully throw my audio sensory into a tailspin. The way the sound silences for a bit any time Evy puts on her headset, and miscellaneous sounds playing in one ear or another. That I do like. 6/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 05/10/2026At that point, you feel an attachment to the children because they're alone in a house with no windows and doors... and a disembodied voice that wades in the dark. Skinamarink was polarizing for being too long or too boring, but works spectacularly for those with active imaginations, like me. 5/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 05/10/2026It ties back to how I was a kid and being deathly afraid of the dark, and that's what Skinamarink's banking on: your childhood fear of the dark. It's not the dark one's afraid of, it's what lurks within. Mind you, the only main characters in that film are two kids who had to fend for themselves. 4/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 05/10/2026What got me to sleep with the lights on from Skinamarink is that the darkness in that film allows your imagination to go overdrive, that instinctual lizard part of your brain is sounding alarm for what could be lurking in the pitch black. The audio adds to the silence and the horror. 3/ 100
Shadowkirby @shadowkirby.bsky.social · 05/10/2026This is a movie I wanted to watch, or hear? back when it was first teased on Youtube and released in theaters, but I never got the time to see it, and have been avoiding spoilers until I eventually saw it with some friends. Been hearing that this was better than Skinamarink... but I doubt it. 2/ 100
