It’s bad enough that Gavin Newsom opposes California’s Prop 40. But he also supports Prop 42, a billionaire-backed poison pill that would cancel out Prop 40 entirely and make it impossible to enact future wealth taxes. It’s clear whose side he’s on. Remember this in 2028.

It's neither. They are Large Language Models; since we don't have an agreed upon definition of what intelligence is in humans or other mammals (whales, dophins, chimpanzees, etc.) we really can't label what LLMs do as intelligence of any kind, artifical or superior. Guess I'm an enemy too.

I don't accept that these so called "data centers" are necessary AT ALL. We don't need what techbros are "selling" us: AIGen super-surveillance, human knowledge & creativity stolen & regurgitated w/o pymt, consent or attribution, bots that spew garbage & lies & hack & manipulate & scam ppl.

what you say is true, but this was a post on Bluesky, I don't think that there are many fascists here (some but not many), and this post is directed at those squabbling within the left/progressive mindset about who is worthy and who isn't worthy. We have the candidates we have.

not necessarily, the cost of private premiums is often so high that even those with few medical issues that care about having coverage "just in case" would be likely to switch. My healthy 61 year old husband is an example. His current premiums are $1100 per month. He'd grab Medicare in an instant.

I agree, but start at both ends with both children (many of whom are already on Medicaid), and lowering the senior age in stages. And fold Medicaid into Medicare, so all those enrolled in Medicaid for income or disability reasons will be included.

But I never really heard a woman that I knew say that she was "always regular". I've always assumed that I was just completely weird, having 40+ years of periods so irregular that some times I went half a year without one. How weird am I????? 3/3

Was reading a scifi novel this past weekend, and the central female character had a pregnancy scare while on the first manned mission to Mars, because she was "always" regular and now was a few days late. It occurred to me that women in fiction whether novels, TV, or movies, are "always regular" 2/3

Questions for every woman out there: How many of you had "regular" 28 day cycles for most of your life (NOT on BC pills)? How many of you were like me and were never regular ever in your whole life? How many of you experienced frequent irregularity or occasional irregularity in your periods? 🧵

it absolutely does. my husband has found ways to stop students from doing this and discovers when he does that most of them have no idea how to think and write, they've become so dependent on AI to complete their work.

Oh I totally agree with #9. It shows up in the difference between an essay written by a student who actually read & thought about a piece of writing, & the essay written by an LLM based on the prompt which simply assembled secondary & teritary comments about the piece of writing. Clear difference.

seems to me if these folks are doing all these things then they are NOT "apathetic" or "clueless" but willing to put in work on problems that do not affect them directly. It's the people that are not AT the meetings that are the problem, not the one's that show up.

Not sure who is more clueless, the DOW or the poster below, but "Effective Altruism" has absolutely nothing to do with compassion, empathy or any such thing. Here's a little blog that gives you a small hint as to what it is about and how it undergirds the entire AI insanity.

actually you should be pleased the DOW doesn't want to be "Effective Altruists" (because that term sure as hell has nothing to do with compassion). Although I suspect the creator of this meme is as clueles as you are. Read this for insight: www.realtimetechpocalypse.com/p/the-altrui...

Someone in this chain does not understand that "Effective Altruism" has nothing to do with empathy, taking care of the poor, elderly, children, sick, disabled, marginalized. It is the one of the underlying philosophies of tech industry leaders and the AI movement, read this for clarification:

I looked at the exchanges yesterday to see what it would cost my family of three to get basic health insurance. The cheapest package was $2200. It is insane that anyone in this country opposes universal health care because they might be taxed at a fraction of what they pay for for healthcare now.

however, if our societies continue to indulge these AI fanatics by giving them billions of dollars, they will do things (like build data centers), that will help push climate change faster and faster, and make it harder and harder to halt.

a really insightful book, by physicist Adam Becker, More Everything Forever: AI Overlords, Space Empires, and Silicon Valley's Crusade to Control the Fate of Humanity, does discuss the origins of these ideas (while seriously critiquing them), and you are right, the origins aren't rational.

Reducing Appalachia to monolithic stereotypes that are politically correct to mock and despise--
*erases Black Appalachians
*erases brown Appalachians
*erases LGBTQ Appalachians
*erases disabled Appalachians
and many other people.
That invisibility kills.
I have seen it kill LGBTQ Appalachian teens. Teens who only get one story about who they are and where they are from.
It's a story forced onto them from folks who are supposed to be concerned for minoritized groups.
