After shaking stops, check your surroundings. If your building is visibly unsafe, evacuate carefully to a nearby open space. Otherwise, shelter in place and avoid travel in the immediate aftermath of a damaging earthquake. Never re-enter a damaged building.

Prepare to stay at home with no utilities for about a week - start by storing at least one gallon of water per person, per day. Keep a battery-powered radio for updates if cell service is unavailable. We will use KCBS 740 AM / 106.9 FM to send emergency updates.

Hear those warm ups? If your eyes are on the sky this weekend, make sure hearing protection is on your checklist. Bring earplugs or earmuffs for the Fleet Week air show, and help children use hearing protection that fits. Protective earmuffs can be easier for young children to use than earplugs.
