⠋ Sewer56 ⣠ @sewer56.dev · 28/09/2026I've seen a function for distance squared go from 7 instructions to 40 instructions in one game, for instance. Due to all that overhead. 010
⠋ Sewer56 ⣠ @sewer56.dev · 28/09/2026I often see recomps advertise 'native performance'. esp with wave of the slop AI recomps. Verbatim ASM -> C translation is actually quite poor from my experience. Around 25-50% of native, depending on arch. CPU register flags+stack emulation is expensive! Lot of headroom. 122

⠋ Sewer56 ⣠ @sewer56.dev · 18/09/2026Unions! It's been a hot minute since I've C#'d, it'd be cool if there was some cool memory trickery going on. i.e. so e.g. 4 types wouldn't use 4x nuint space. Though, I find it unlikely :/ , I heard CLR limitations have been a blocker last time I saw this discussed over a year ago. 000
⠋ Sewer56 ⣠ @sewer56.dev · 18/09/2026You're probably seeing rust-llm-tidy , a scrappy prototype experiment I have running on the side to evaluate how much I can steer LLM output by giving it deterministic feedback. Over the past month I've actually been helping a WIP unreleased project; so actual contribs are on private repos. 100

⠋ Sewer56 ⣠ @sewer56.dev · 17/09/2026The unfortunate reality is that the best way to stay alive on the internet is to not piss off anyone 🥲 I pray every night that I don't- 042
⠋ Sewer56 ⣠ @sewer56.dev · 17/09/2026For me that means saving time by completing the boring, mundane boilerplate. Including most method bodies and standard test cases. But the architecture, code structure, documentation, code docs and review is still all me. And well, my quality standards have always been quite high. 000
⠋ Sewer56 ⣠ @sewer56.dev · 17/09/2026Ultimately, if you want things done well, you gotta treat the LLM for what it is - autocomplete on steroids. Some things it's good at, others, not so much. Folks have different ways of writing code, but for me it's often a high level architecture/vision of how it all pieces together first. 100
⠋ Sewer56 ⣠ @sewer56.dev · 17/09/2026It's also unfortunately a reflection of the user. Some folks genuinely like building things and always always want to do a good job. For others, it's just a place to go and come back with a paycheck. 100
⠋ Sewer56 ⣠ @sewer56.dev · 17/09/2026Especially since quality is always a 'subjective' argument. It's not something you can really measure on a benchmark. 110
⠋ Sewer56 ⣠ @sewer56.dev · 17/09/2026That's kind of the thing, right? LLMs have no good 'taste' by default. At the end of the day the final quality of the code lies on the user who submits the code. And that's unlikely to change, as the average person's code, the 'baseline' (training data) isn't great code in the first place 100
⠋ Sewer56 ⣠ @sewer56.dev · 17/09/2026Also yes, you're absolutely right on that note. It's quite depressing sometimes. You've spent years doing reverse engineering; building tools and some person with LLM that doesn't know what they're doing comes along- feeds all that to the model and now they're 'god' in the eyes of the people. 220
⠋ Sewer56 ⣠ @sewer56.dev · 17/09/2026Was meant to quote previous in chain, but BSky only allowed to quote last one :/ Point was, unfortunately, that the typical person thinks 'cool I can play Mario Kart in my browser' (etc.). They can't tell slop apart from proper engineering, which is how folks farm clout. 100
⠋ Sewer56 ⣠ @sewer56.dev · 17/09/2026The thing about AI mainly is, the barrier of entry is now much lower. So there's a lot more software around. It's a double edged sword. On one end, it enables new folks to get involved. On the other end, it allows people who don't want to put in some actual effort to make sloppy spaghetti. 010
⠋ Sewer56 ⣠ @sewer56.dev · 17/09/2026A lot of software out there is just straight up... crap. Even before AI. But folks accept it just because they don't know any better; unfortunately. Industry normalized shipping entire bloated 0.5GB web browsers for simple calculator apps. Just because web devs are cheaper. #corporate 251

⠋ Sewer56 ⣠ @sewer56.dev · 28/02/2026🐾 The little trick lies in UTF-8 encoding~ 🐾 Bytes `0x00-0x7F` (ASCII) are always single-byte UTF8. Bytes `0x00-0x7F` cannot be follow-up bytes.
