I installed a 2 TB Samsung 980 Pro NVMe SSD in my 2013 trashcan Mac Pro. I'm very glad I bought this SSD well before the current RAMpocalypse, as this same SSD is now over DOUBLE the original cost (from $380 AUD to $800).

I thought Babylon was okay (Margot Robbie’s story wasn’t as interesting as Brad Pitt or Diego Calva’s stories), but I really liked Digger and came to respect the aspects I didn’t like.

If Senator John Kennedy is elected President in 2028, he will be the Sixth Doctor of the US Presidency, in that Sixth Doctor Colin Baker was not related to Fourth Doctor Tom Baker despite having the same surname, and John Kennedy is not related to the famous Kennedy family (JFK, RFK, etc).

That must be a fantastic feeling. :) I had a friend who was once carded while buying alcohol, and she was 37 at the time. She must have been over the Moon. ;)

Watching Hit Man, I saw myself a lot in Glen Powell's nerdy but cute main character Gary Johnson, in that he felt like a more charming and handsome version of me. I no longer see myself in him.

I enjoy shooting artful nudes of myself sometimes, and just took some in the bath. I had fun and felt sexy, but some angles highlight how bald I'm becoming. :(

I just got a press email about the November 12 Australian release of You Can See Everything, a documentary about Theranos founder and fraudster Elizabeth Holmes. I don’t watch documentaries much or follow co-director Nathan Fielder, but I’m very interested to see this (and what a creepy poster).

What do you think of Shyamalan overall? Have you seen The Village? I genuinely think it's his best film, followed closely by Old.

I've long felt that A Trick Of The Tail by Genesis is a perfect general-purpose introduction to prog-rock, but Time And A Word would be a great introduction for someone specifically into metal. Several tracks in Time And A Word, including NONNEN, Then and Astral Traveller, rock so fucking hard.

Bad people deserve to be spoken ill of whether they are alive or dead. One justification I’ve seen for not criticising the dead is that they aren’t around to defend themselves. But in most cases, they wouldn’t be present around you to defend themselves even if they were alive, so it’s a moot point.

In his latest ethical failure, "art" nude "photographer" David Entz just released an AI-generated shoot of a model he worked with a long time ago. Making AI slop photoshoots of fake people is bad enough, but fabricating nudes of real people without their consent is utterly disgusting.

I had a good day today: I saw Pinocchio: Unstrung at Cinema Nova, I finished writing my essay about Digger, I had truffle oil Mac and Cheese for lunch, I found a copy of Hyperion with the beautiful original cover, and my vinyl of Dünya Yalan Söylüyor by Mor ve Ötesi finally arrived. 🥰

The Leah Files used eight UN-derived criteria to gauge and rank the corruption of US Presidents and the degree to which they exploited and plundered their country. Not only does Trump score over double the corruption of Nixon, but he’s one of the most corrupt leaders of the past hundred years.

I’m not sure if I should start Baldur’s Gate 3. I’ve heard it’s great, but I really don’t like when video games have visible cards or dice-rolls, as it destroys the immersion by drawing too much attention to the artifice. I fear my brain would just slide right off BG3.

Does it mean a space 4 metres wide, deep and tall? Imagine if you put out 64 metres worth of rubbish. After all, that IS 4 to the power of 3, so they can’t complain. 😆

It’s strange to consider that the Mac gaming ecosystem may be better for game ownership than Steam or the PlayStation. From what I understand, I actually OWN my Mac App Store copy of Death Stranding, but if I bought the game on Steam, I would only purchase a license to play it, not own it.

Going For The One is a near-perfect album to me. I discovered Depeche Mode through @shadowtodd.bsky.social, and Music For The Masses and Playing The Angel are two of my favourite albums. Başıbozuk features Deli, an awesome song by Turkish band Mor ve Ötesi, who are one of my favourite rock bands.

We differ significantly on Digger: I found the art direction, over-the-top performances (especially from John Goodman) and the blunt but welcome commentary on capitalism and the climate crisis really fun, and I wish Iñárritu had stuck with that and not gotten distracted with the play metanarrative.

I've sometimes wondered if Marxism would have a better historical status if Engels were the main proponent. Somewhere in the multiverse, the English flaunt their enlightened economic system of Engelism. 'We the English speak English and follow Engelism!'
