This Thursday’s episode of Surviving Earth dealt with GABI (the Great American Biotic Interchange). I was entrusted with designing several animals including the gigantic ground sloth Eremotherium eomigrans. I am really fond of ground sloths and I love reconstructing them! #paleoart #SurvivungEarth

Let me introduce you to Tametara mirim, a basal Cretaceous snake from South America that was likely fossorial. It is known from a beautifully preserved and articulated specimen that includes a skull! If you know anything about snake fossils you will know that is VERY rare #snakes #paleoart

I tried to poke it a bit so it moved but I soon realized I was in a very bad position. She had the higher ground and it launched downwards towards me when I poked her tail. So I had to wait for her to relax and move 😅 She was huge and truly beautiful, but she was in a very bad mood.

So, I found this huge Northern Cottonmouth (Agkistrodon piscivorus) this morning during my morning hike and it was blocking my path out the pond area. It didn’t want to move and it was not happy with me 😅 #reptiles #snakes

The bones that form our ear bones in mammals were completely part of the jaw in early synapsids. We start seeing signs for external ear openings much later, around the appearence of therapsids
