For the third time, he'd created me. Or maybe it was the fourth. I think Jayce recreated me third, then.
Perhaps Jayce had created me second, too, when I'd read that book, and found him on that ledge. Maybe I created Jayce, and in return, Jayce created me.
Perhaps I created myself.
Orianna was waiting for an answer, a response, anything. But I can't help it. I'm looking at this old, sickly man, wondering, what am I supposed to do about him? Everybody dies. But does he deserve it?
Does he deserve to live? Does anyone really deserve to live? Does anyone really deserve to die? She's asking me to save him, to preserve his life, to make him immortal, the very thing he did to her, but only after doing it to me. Did I ask for this? Did I deserve this? | went to him when I was dying for his help - yes, perhaps, I had asked to live forever. That, if I die, he must bring me back, because by all accounts and evidence, I hadn't wanted to, and he respected that by bringing me back. But is this a fate deserved, a fate earned? I'd wanted to live - am I really trying to convince myself that now, I want to die, that I wanted to die? If I had died, at least it was Jayce who I saw last, the only important thing.
I can't bring him back. The doctor. I can't. He deserves that fate - to be brought alive, to be immortal - he deserves it, because it's suffering. He should see what I see, feel what I feel; that's why I can't.
I hold Orianna's hand, and I feel. She's looking at him, Doctor Reveck, Doctor, and she feels nothing. I feel that she feels nothing. What an existence that is, to feel nothing; an existence we share, thanks to him. He doesn't deserve that. He can feel nothing elsewhere, where I will never see him, will never get the chance to see him.
