US Insurance was my answer. Which means it's extra heartbreaking realizing trans people are un-/underemployed. My last job I made very good friends out of my HR person and my insurance contact. (Even if the job ended up jettisoning me afterward, I soaked them for all the insurance money I could.)

I wasn't offering this as a "reason why not", my hope is to say "this is a good lesson and things can be designed to take in account further knowledge." I absolutely support cultivating plants wherever we can especially when they can be integrated into useful systems.

This is to say that yes, it would be good to have plants by people infrastructure, but I also do feel that there's a pressing need to care for it so that it doesn't have alternate problems cropping (ha?) up.

It's kind of interesting in that... I am a library trustee and we're looking at plants in parking lot islands. They're being replaced with plants more hardy to salt/winter conditions. When we removed the plants... visibility was so much better. Since there's kids in the parking lot, I felt safer.

Considering mayo is oil + egg, I've been doing this for an age and it tastes fantastic. It can get a bit problematic if overdone, but as long as one just crisps it up... I'll do both sides of the bread to boot, so that the inside of the grilled cheese is also toasty/crispy along with the outside.

These look like the jankiest things I've ever stitched together. I'm still proud of them anyway because it was a first run at a completely new design, and I get to post that I created this. Because they're also not done yet, despite the two hours' work I put in on them tonight... soon, more pics!

two white loops of fabric that look really messed up, but there's a reason they kind of look like this...

The loop has fabric that is thin that will go down inside the boot and subsequently be anchored by Velcro (to be done later), and there's a flap where the boot rides up into the white loop so that it'll look like the boot extends upward.

The last thing that'll be done here is that I will sew a crescent moon ornament on the front of it, to complete the accessories for my Sailor Moon costume.

this is the goal! it's a red boot with a white top and a little yellow crescent moon that hangs from the white and intersects with the red.

Oh, I fully knew I was the unfavorite by elementary school. And I only had one sibling. I knew I wasn’t the favorite so I bent over backwards to minimize myself and make parents happy and I still wasn’t the favorite. That queer stench was always there, I suppose. For damn sure I was uncomfortable.

At some point I might do more practical things with this skill I’m honing… At present I’m using it as a metaphor to show that I had to create myself from whole cloth. My creation is both magical and intentional. I hope I get to see a fashion show of your shirts sometime! Not just in drawing… 😉

offering that I'm not one that can draw a whole lot and is at loathe to write, but... sewing is kind of my journaling? I remember where I am when I make my outfits (costumes!), I can see my growth, and at this point it's meaningful to me to engage.

Work in progress to make a larger bow than the one below.

Two bows finished. One is for the front on the chest, the other is for the lower back (butt bow!)

Collars through the years - 2024 on the left, 2025 in the center, 2026 on the right. 2025 was good but too big! Needed to redo it and was able to take more time and craftsmanship to do it as well.

My full costume. The bought-in items are the gloves, leotard, boots, and then the accessories. Other than that if it's fabric, I did it. Including adding poofs / attachment points.

I finished my collar. Set the corners, closed the neck, set attachments for secure fixture to leotard. Lastly… all of the costume has been moved to the hangar so that my pets can’t get to it and cause further damage. There is one more thing to finish… but it should be quick. #cosplay #sailormoon

Sailor Moon cosplay collar in-process. The one on the left is the one being crafted. The second stripe has been attached. It is a blue fabric collar with two parallel white stripes running along the sides.

More to come. Probably a good couple days. Need to do a second row of stitches to the first stripe, then affix the second stripe, then connect both halves, then finish stitch… and lastly affix Velcro for attachments to the leotard.

The next step - new collar. Because I couldn’t find an exact match on the fabric from the old skirt, I need a new collar. It’ll be smaller because I realized that the other collar was too big. This is one night’s worth process from bonding interface, cutting two halves, and sewing stripe #1.

A large piece of blue fabric next to a cut piece of interfacing. Both sit on an ironing board next to an iron on a sewing desk.

The interface has been ironed to the fabric and is ready to be cut. I needed to do this twice.

The first stripe has been measured and attached via sewing machine. Careful measurements around all sides to try to put it on.

The new collar, on the left. Old collar on the right. The new collar needs another stripe and a backing still.

Both are blue with white stripes. The collar is the collar to Sailor Moon’s outfit.

I've been a trade compliance professional for 20 years. I can't stress how wild it's been through the last two years all of the taxes and fees that have been added to shipments. It used to be that we had exceptionally high duties on some items -- of 25%! That was it! Now it's multiples higher!

I mean… some of us are in nonpartisan seats and are doing what we can to stem the tide of fascism as a labor of love, too. 🫡 Especially since there’s a lot of cost to being in politics and I’m definitely not “trans gentry”. My purview is definitely not all that big though. I feel badly about that.

I know that I would love to step up and do more but who the hell is going to _finance_ someone who wants to dismantle systems that protect the wealthy? I'm in my own local politics. I have no money to really devote to it. And so I know what positions are open to me... ones where I just play defense against encroaching fascism, like library board. Getting access to the tools she has, networks of donors / volunteers... carries a definite cost.
