Maybe taking a single paper from a research group, and construing it as supporting this "lack of evidence" without mentioning the other work the group has done, that finds overwhelming evidence in favour of the concern about microplastics, that's really fucking bad.

Original Research
An Umbrella Review of Meta-

Associations between
Human Health and Exposure
to Major Classes of Plastic-

Conclusions: Exposure to plastic-associated
chemicals is associated with adverse
outcomes across a wide range of human
health domains, and every plastic-
associated chemical group is associated
with at least one adverse health outcome.

Large gaps
remain for many plastic-associated
chemicals.

Maybe when you describe a paper, the criticism, and the response to criticism, and you selectively highlight the less important criticism, and not the stuff the authors responded to, because the critics are all employed by plastics manufacturers, that means you're aware what yours doing is fucked.

Maybe if one of the big criticisms is funded by a chemical manufacturers lobbying organisation and you don't make the audience aware you're getting close to malpractice.

Like maybe the "bombshell" framing, which is repeated from a quote by Kuhlman, whose letter is linked, is bad, when the guy framing it that way is a former research chemist for Union Carbide and Dow with obvious vested interests in undermining this.

Impossible to not be thinking about this paragraph constantly the last few weeks/months/who knows how many years to come. From The Apprentices Sorcerer: Liberal Tradition and Fascism, Ishay Lands, 2010.

Liberalism, like the sorcerer's apprentice in the famous poem/ story, called into existence forces, immensely useful at first, but which it subsequently could not control, those unruly, and uncannily multiplying mops, the modern workers, which refused to accept their role as mere tools in the production process and were gaining lives and wills of their own. So the liberal apprentice conjures a sorcerer, too, in order to re-establish order, re-transform the animated brooms into plain wood. Fascism, in spite of words and gestures, came not really to do battle with liberalism, but primarily as an ally, albeit a bullying, patronizing one, offering much needed succor. And it offered its services at a price. The price was for liberalism to change, to modify its behavior, even to change its name (and indeed sometimes to call itself
"socialism"). While liberalism, for its part, in some exemplary cases, thought the price worth paying, thought the transformation worth going through, not least because fascism signified a project of supposed restoring to health and "restructuring," to use a trendy term, with which liberalism itself had a lot to do in devising and developing.
In order to salvage the vessel of capitalism, economic liberals were quite often ready and willing to throw overboard the excess baggage of liberal political institutions and ideals.

Wow, what a curiously designed helmet from the "we promise we're not feminazis" studio who have been entirely normal about women and sexual abuse and trauma.

A helmet that perfectly fits the design criteria of: what if we took a thoroughly conventional sci-fi horror design and made it as yonic as possible. In a really quite concerning way given bloobers track record.

Feels like we're 6 months away from "these independant medical experts are scorned by physicists for "giving deadly advice" and "misusing the term "quantum"", but maybe they do actually hold the cure for all our problems"

A YouTube thumbnail of a video from a former phycisist now professional crank/grifter, Sabine Hossenfelder, about some guy who won a Nobel prize who has a pet theory that is untestable and irrelevant about how quantum mechanics actually can be deterministic after all.

Another of her and the other equal leader of the warband, Agathina.

The same figure as in the first post, standing alongside a thousand sons infernal master modified with a female head. Her armour is also painted in white, but with pink trim and blue accents.

Lyra @seren.monster · 19/01/2025

Finally finished painting the leader of my homebrew warband, Orphinae. Reluctant daughter of Fulgrim, traitor to both the Imperium and the forces of chaos, and leader of the Warp Roses. #nerdlings #WarhammerCommunity #Warhammer40k

A female figure with double jointed legs, wearing chaos space marine inspired power armour, but instead of spikes there are floral ornamentations. Her power pack is reminiscent of butterfly wings, and has 3 jets for flight on each wing, there is a split cloak attached, which continues the theme of butterfly wings. She's holding a bolter/revolver modified to fire needles, and the cylinders on the barrel show colourful fluids. There are more concoctions and substances in vials on her wrist. Her other hand carries a long sword. The armour is painted white, with metallic blue trim.

The mortifying ordeal of being woken from a nap / the rewards of soon having her favourite fish for dinner.

A black cat lying tangled under a furry brown blanket. One paw sticking out towards the camera with another under her head, which is most of the way to upside down. Her eyes are cracked open just enough to see and is staring directly into the lens.

First pot soldered in place. Double wires for 5V and ground to daisy chain the others. Try and get circuitpython up and running and test midi with just one to make sure it works before doing more.

A potentiometer wired into the terminal blocks mounted to the microcontroller board.

Presents today are a bunch of electronics stuff to make my own midi controller for synth stuff. Microcontroller board with a ton of i/o and analogue pins and a big terminal block shield so I don't have to risk messing things up too much with poor soldering. And lots of potentiometers.

Also always find it delightful how shared nature brings people together so easily. Ran into a very friendly American who was here driving from Sydney all the way up to Cairns. Here with a big list of lizard and bird lifers to spot and helped him find a Goanna on his first day! Just wonderful.

A large goanna walking towards the camera, legs spread wide and moving slowly towards a tree in the foreground.

The same goanna now side on, standing still with its head raised into the air, sniffing the air before moving on.

Finally got out into nature again this weekend and got some more bird photos 🪶

A white bellied sea eagle circling in a bright blue sky, with whispy white cloud forming a gentle background gradient from the bottom left of the image.

A brown cuckoo dove peacefully sitting on a slender branch staring towards the camera, the background is filled with lush greenery and dappled sunlight filtering through the canopy above.

Blue? On Bluesky? Mostly used as a highlight but going to be pretty central in the warleader of my homebrew chaos warband, currently just a wip until I have time to sit down and work on her properly, hopefully soon #Nerdlings

A 40k style miniature of a chaos space marine lady, designed in the style of Horus Heresy emperors children models, with fully armoured double jointed legs, wielding a long slender sword and a revolver needler.

A 40k thousand sons infernal master, with a lady head, painted with white armour and purple trim, with a rich blue cloak, magic flame effects picked out in sparkly void purple.

We've just welcomed a kitty to our family and she's perfect, but also has been taking time to settle in and has *not* wanted to poop regularly at all, and while we've avoided having to have it medically treated it's absurd to be able to tell how long it's been by how circular she is lmao

A top down photo of a black cat standing still, a section of her abdomen is visibly larger and indicates that she's definitely due to visit the litter box sometime in the next day

Been having a lot of fun making pretty pictures with iterated function system (IFS) fractals. Will try do a thread and explain them a bit and post some more, but for now here's my favourite (which will become a tattoo as soon as I can afford it). 🧪

$An image illustrating a fractal generated by recursively iterating a complex function, given a single starting point. The fractal resembles the shape of a butterfly's wings, but with each wing being a perfectly symmetric mirror of the others. The complex function describing the fractal is written at the top of the page.$

New kitty??? Welcome to the family Scrappy ♥️

An adult black cat, wearing a red collar with a small bell/charm, sitting in dappled sunlight by a glass window, looking out on the world.

The same cat in the same place, but turned away from the window, licking her paw to groom her face.

Same again, but loafing contentedly being warmed by the morning sun.

Realising now with hindsight that maybe this is a strange way to have bought train tickets? But its what I grew up with and I love it dearly? Despite its now very obvious flaws. Just choose where you want to go by pressing the button from the list of every single station on the network! It's simple!
