📢 New paper out! Can we effectively characterize Fusarium diversity using metabarcoding? We analyzed Spanish cereal grains using ITS2 and TEF1, confirming key toxigenic species (e.g. F. langsethiae) and others often overlooked by traditional methods. Link below 👇

Back in Madrid after 3 months at @utrechtuniversity.bsky.social! I recently wrapped up a research stay at @binfutrecht.bsky.social working on cereal metagenomics for my PhD thesis 🧬 Big thanks to @mfseidl.bsky.social and the TBB team, and to @femsmicro.org for the Research and Training Grant!

Throwback to the 47th Mycotoxin Workshop in Berlin! 🇩🇪 I shared part of my PhD thesis: a poster & 1-min pitch on Fusarium metabarcoding in cereal grains. Great science and networking! Looking forward to the next steps

1/4. Excited to share the first preprint from my PhD at @binfutrecht.bsky.social and @uti-revisited.bsky.social 🐥. In this work, we explored the urinary tract microbiome composition (urobiome) by combining data from multiple metagenomic sequencing studies 💛🦠. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Our latest research shows that an ancient gene duplication event drove the evolution of CgEP4, a critical effector protein that targets maize nuclei to suppress plant immunity and aid fungal colonization www.biorxiv.org/cgi/content/...

Gene duplication drove functional divergence of two effectors in the maize anthracnose pathogen
Colletotrichum species rank among the most important fungal pathogens, threatening food security by infecting nearly all major crops worldwide. Colletotrichum graminicola , the causal agent of maize a...

Long-distance gene flow and recombination shape the evolutionary history of a maize pathogen
The evolutionary history of crop pathogens is shaped by a complex interaction of natural and anthropogenic factors. The fungus Colletotrichum graminicola causes maize anthracnose which results in sign...
