...PAYING to volunteer. If there were more constraints on what that actually means (which would likely mean you'd need so many volunteers to be impractical) it might be a more palatable thing to me. But until then, I just have to give my hats off to the people that do sacrifice for our cons!

Because on top of all the volunteering and mental stress and effort, it's a double-whammy in that you're using precious vacation/pto time to stress yourself out more and now you can't actually use that vacation time to properly relax. It's not that you aren't getting paid, you're effectively...

I remember volunteering for FWA for one year back in either 2005 or 2006 and I immediately realized that I couldn't handle that on top of my normal job. It'd be different if it was a full-time gig but as a soft squishy creature that only has so much space in their brain...it's just tooooo much :(
