From the very beginning, it didn't really matter what level my students were; it still doesn't matter. I'm not looking for famous skaters. I'm looking for skaters who want to learn, work, and perform - those who have the potential to develop. I actually enjoy teaching at any level; I work with skaters from the 'Learn to Skate' program and students from the schools in our region. Yes, I actually started by working with the Japanese
national team
and very
advanced kids, but to me,
any level is interesting and
presents its own challenges. I never pictured myself as an elite coach or a beginners' coach; I just want to help any skater.
Adult skaters haven't been where we've focused much energy yet, but that's something I have done as well. When Lewis Gibson invited me to a seminar in Scotland, it was a very interesting experience, because young kids are usually brought to the rink by their parents. Adult skaters,
however, decide for themselves that they want to learn.
They take that very seriously, organizing their time around their jobs and lives to make it happen. Sometimes, they are even more intense about it than skaters who compete.
So, really, any level. I've worked with ice dancers and pairs;
I even worked with a synchro team in Sweden. I truly enjoy working at
any level and in any discipline.

understood
how different it is - you need to learn how to hold, make the
lifts, and execute the throws. It's something I never thought would be so different! it is still figure skating, but there are so many new things to learn. Skating has offered me countless opportunities to learn, and I'm still learning today. Even 10 years after starting the school, I remain eager to continue on this journey! I still want to know more!"

Saw an early access screening of Wicked and have to say this movie is beyond gorgeous. The way they adapted the score for the film is a masterclass in respecting your source material while adding fresh new takes to fit the big screen. The live voicings by Ariana and Cynthia were incredible — 🧵

Wicked Part One blew my mind away. I’m still coming to terms with how it’s in two parts, but I get it. They added so much to the plot, excellent and beautiful world building… all around amazing. Ariana was fantastic, and the whole cast was ACTING!

I do not like it at all. I think it leads. I think if you're a figure skating judge, you know what clean turns look like. You know what beautiful spins look like. You know what the elements are supposed to look like.’

And I think that we unfortunately have a culture within this sport - not gonna name names, but they're not allowed to compete right now. - where judging will be all over the place if you allow a system where you take out major levels there. Because then someone who's doing some bullshit ugly spin, a judge can just award it the same. Like imagine, I'm trying to think, okay, how about this? My spins aren't leveled and Karen Chen's spins aren't leveled. There is no universe where my spins should be scored the same way as Karen Chen's…But using politics, they could be. And that's where I'm like, that's not safe, because I should never get Karen Chen's spin points ever.’

But at the time, when the scores were only a minus three to a plus three, Karen would walk away from the event with plus threes across the board on the same element that you did that you would get plus ones and twos. So you were judging the same element. And I think that if they weren't leveled, you'd get the same sort of thing. Like, it's only a matter of time until every skater is going to do a level four spin again.’
