4 weeks from today is Election Day! If you haven’t yet, there’s still time to request an absentee ballot by mail at myvote.wi.gov, and in-person absentee voting begins in exactly 2 weeks. The future of our state is up for grabs. Whatever you do, don’t sit this one out!

High prices are bad enough, but when wage growth stops keeping pace with inflation, it’s even worse. It’s time to end tax incentives for businesses that fail to pay a living wage or provide cost of living adjustments for their workers.

If we can’t even trust them to tell the truth when U.S. citizens are detained, how can we take them at their word regarding immigrant arrests? Check out this amazing reporting from ProPublica projects.propublica.org/american-cit...

More Than 500 U.S. Citizens Have Been Detained, Including Handcuffed or Held at Gunpoint, in Trump’s Immigration Crackdown — ProPublica
The government doesn’t track how often immigration officers detain U.S. citizens. So ProPublica did. We’ve found more than 500 Americans who were held against their will during this Trump administrati...

The Admin routinely lies about the circumstances of these detentions, as evidenced by the fact that less than half of U.S. citizens detained for assault/obstruction of immigration officials were charged, and even many of those that were charged ultimately saw those charges dropped or dismissed.

They claim it’s not happening, but it most definitely is. At least 506 U.S. citizens have been detained by immigration enforcement agents during Trump’s second term. Among them have been dozens of children, some of whom were actually deported.

In mid-2025, Congress passed over $4 trillion in tax cuts that mostly benefit the rich and corporations. In the 1st year following the passage of OBBBA... Corporate Profits - 26.6% ⬆ Consumer Prices - 4% ⬆ Real Hourly Wages - 0.1% ⬆ Tax cuts don't trickle down. We need to make work pay again.

As the weather gets colder, and people spend more time indoors, it's also the start of cold and flu season. Here are the latest vaccine recommendations from the WI Department of Health Services: Flu - Everyone 6 months and older, annually COVID-19 - Everyone 6 months and older, annually 1/2

Now is not the time to double down on harmful fossil fuels. Instead, we must accelerate the transition to clean and renewable energy sources before it’s too late!

WE Energies alone had over 4.25 gigawatts worth of methane power plants awaiting approval by the Public Service Commission - mostly to power current and future AI data centers.

Climate change is the single greatest threat to our civilization, and yet big tech companies are proceeding full-speed ahead on projects that will only accelerate climate catastrophe.

WI cities, counties, and school districts don't raise property taxes just for the fun of it. They do it out of necessity. It's our job as legislators to figure out a way to make sure our communities have the resources they need to provide excellent service without pricing people out of their homes.

Senator Chris Larson @senchrislarson.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
The same is true for local governments. When the cost of gas, supplies, HVAC, employee benefits, etc go up, there's only so much that can be done to contain costs. Unless you want major service disruptions, the budget is going to grow, and property taxes often grow with it.

When grocery prices go up, you still need to eat. You can get cheaper ingredients, but depending on what you get, it could adversely affect your health. Even then, there's only so much you can do to cut costs.

Every child deserves to be fed. When Democrats control the WI legislature, we will pass universal breakfast and lunch for all students. School lunch debt - which is somehow a real thing - will cease to be, and learning outcomes will improve.

A rally in support of Salah Sarsour will be held tonight at the Islamic Society of Milwaukee Community Center. Let's show the world that our community stands up to injustice!
0134
Senator Chris Larson @senchrislarson.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
While I am optimistic that Mr. Sarsour will ultimately prevail on appeal, it is clear that the Trump Administration has no interest in enforcing U.S. law, but is determined to terrorize critics, particularly those who use their voices to speak out against gross injustice.
1111
Senator Chris Larson @senchrislarson.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Salah Sarsour is being targeted for his support for Palestine – full stop. The meritless charges from before his arrival in the United States over three decades ago, which were fully disclosed prior to Sarsour receiving his green card, are no basis to deport him.

While we’ve sadly fallen short time and again, the America I love is one that strives to ensure all people, no matter what, have certain unalienable rights. That’s the America I’m fighting for.

Senator Chris Larson @senchrislarson.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
The thing about civil rights is that if some people don’t have them, they aren’t rights at all - they’re just temporary privileges bestowed upon us by the powerful which can be revoked at any time.

Senator Chris Larson @senchrislarson.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
I can’t help but feel that the Republican platform in the age of MAGA is based around a central philosophy that some lives have merit and deserve to have their rights and dignity respected, while others do not.

MMSD picks Jacobs for wastewater contract, but Veolia lawsuit continues
A judge's order allowed MMSD to select its next operator, but the district agreed not to sign a contract until its suit over the process is resolved.

Privatization is almost never the answer. This whole MMSD contract saga is just the latest example. Public dollars for public goods should go toward work performed by public employees.

We can't afford to turn away talent like this. Not only that, it's causing financial problems for universities since international students pay a higher tuition rate than state residents.
020
Senator Chris Larson @senchrislarson.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
UW-Madison, University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, and Concordia University have been especially hard-hit. Many international students are some of the best and brightest, and are working on world-changing research.

Senator Chris Larson @senchrislarson.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
You may have heard of the "Brain Drain," but what about the "Doc Block?" Trump's backward immigration policies, including some specifically targeted at international students, have caused a dramatic drop in applications and enrollments among international students.

And yet, enforcement of wage theft is severely lacking. Between states and the federal government, only about 1% of that $50 billion is recovered annually. Wisconsin must strengthen its wage theft laws and join other states in treating this behavior like the crime that it is.
3566
Senator Chris Larson @senchrislarson.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
Employers underpay their workers by an estimated $50 billion every year through various forms of wage theft. That's more than every type of property crime COMBINED. DoorDash alone paid a $131.5 million settlement in New York City for underpaying their delivery drivers.

If the Administration were really interested in investigating fraud, they would audit the insurance companies who issue these plans, not summarily cancel the health plans of 760,000 people before any wrongdoing can be properly adjudicated.
1132
Senator Chris Larson @senchrislarson.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
The Trump Administration announced yesterday it has canceled the health insurance policies of 760,000 Americans who are enrolled in plans on the Obamacare Exchange. At a time when everything - particularly healthcare - is too damn expensive, this move will only make the problem worse.

Can anyone think of a historical example of a world leader who was doing a good job deciding to suddenly cut off press access? We wouldn’t accept that behavior from Packers Coach Matt LaFleur, why should we accept it from the most powerful human in the world?
0162
Senator Chris Larson @senchrislarson.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Our reality TV star turned President is faring so poorly in public opinion right now that he’s cut off TV press access for outlets that refuse to cover him more favorably. As a result, the rest of the TV press corps are refusing to do pool coverage of his events until further notice.

Just the first 4 large data center projects already underway are projected to cost $1.5 billion in foregone sales tax during construction and $369 million every year after that.
173
Senator Chris Larson @senchrislarson.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
For every $1 billion spent to build an AI data center, Wisconsin loses $40 million in tax revenue during initial construction and $10 million annually thereafter due to a sales tax exemption included in the 2023-25 State Budget.
1159
Senator Chris Larson @senchrislarson.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
When Democrats have a majority in the Legislature, we will fully fund our schools, implement paid family leave, legalize marijuana, raise the minimum wage, and restore collective bargaining rights to all Wisconsin workers.

Senator Chris Larson @senchrislarson.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
Republicans have been in control of the legislature since 2011. Every budget passed since then has been a Republican budget. If you're mad about inadequate school funding, high property taxes, or anything else the state has a hand in, thank a Republican.
