I write science fiction with a furry aesthetic! Assassins and stewards, hackers and security, pilots and pirates, mercenaries and zealots, dictators and freedom fighters, lovers and lost souls, dragons and kobolds, all set in a far future universe. Check it out— […]

I almost accidentally vored a fly. It was in my coffee and I took a sip, then I was like "what's this soft thing rolling around in my mouth? It's like a tea leaf." I pulled it out, got some paper towels to dry it off, and it flew away after a while.

I miss how clean and sane Rust is. ... "error[E0596]: cannot borrow `*pool` as mutable, as it is behind a `&` reference" The f— do you mean? Why am I just throwing ".as_mut()," &mut, etc everywhere? Why can't I just have a struct with a Vec of references without having lifetimes cluttering […]

But then after segfaults and gdb and breakpoints, I'm like "wouldn't it be nice to have code that I can just write and have it work?" and go comes back out. But then there's the damn GUI thing again. And it's still sloppy in ways that irritate me. It's a shame ruby isn't faster—I've never been […]

Does anyone ever find themselves getting annoyed by whatever programming language they're using, and constantly trying different ones? I'm ok at go, and I successfully write stuff in it. But it's sloppy, and there aren't any good GUI options*, so I go back to rust. But rust can be irritating […]

I'm not sure what to do about my books. They're not selling particularly well anymore. The thing is, I don't care about sales, really—I just want people to read my story. The people who read my books tell me that they really like them, but there's a lot of silence out there. I have to assume […]

So, I've had the #SteamFrame for a week now, and I have thoughts. 1. It's got a 2x faster CPU than the Deck, at least when compiling #Rust. 2. The battery life is not "an hour". it's "As long as you can keep swapping out the 2-3 USB C batteries you already have […] [Original post on namtao.com]

I have a love/hate relationship with go (the language). I really enjoy coding in it, but is extremely inelegant in many places. It also has lots of places where its syntactic glue has different patterns depending on what you're trying to do. It's like an ugly blend of implicit sugar (ruby) and […]

Stolen. (Lar Desouza; full attribution in alt text)
A comic panel / political cartoon by Lar Desouza (@lartist.bsky.social / Instagram Uncalar, patreon.com/lardesouza).

On the left, a comic representation of US Senator Tommy Tuberville saying "Would you be comfortable with a mentally ill furry being your pilot?". On the right, Baloo and Don Karnage, an anthropomorphic bear and red wolf from Disney's TaleSpin, pilots who are the series's protagonist and anatagonist, respectively, stand facing each other. Don Karnage is saying "He is to be talking about us, yes no?"

The caption at the bottom reads "Sen. Tommy Tuberville Says "Deranged" Furry Culture Is Flight Safety Risk" and "Forbes.com Sept/24/2026"

The late morning light of an early summer sun dances on the ripples of a small, cool stream where it flows lazily from the mouth of a low mountain cave; glimmering and glinting off of roots and stone and dew within, and little fish, and wet moss, and myriad small, colorful pebbles that made up the stream’s bed, it bounces off the verdant, deep greens outside, casting the hues of life and fertility into the darkness to harmonize with the soft burble of water finding its way along in search of the sea. Carried within the cool, clear channel, a deep ruby stream of life flows from a large form within, its glistening black scales yet rising and falling. _O mountain,_ the wind cries, _hold dear our child. Keep final watch over her who split her life between your shadow and my embrace, who loved us both in all the moods she knew us. Hold her gently within yourself as she grows still and cool, and returns her love to the world.___ The mountain says nothing, but softly weeps. It has seen a thousand thousand ages. _O earth,_ the wind cries, _Take her love home into you. Her essence, muscle, body and scale alike, the sails of her wings, her organs, and the life she carries within, these she returns to you, to the land, to the smaller creatures, the fish, and the flowers. Even the tiniest creatures of all shall come to her, to thank her, to return her to sweet loam, the earth from which she is made. Love her._ And the earth is silent, or as silent as the earth can be. _O time,_ the wind cries, _to you she leaves her bones, made of the collected life, love and energy of so many other lives, a fleeting monument to show that she lived and stirred, and grew from nothing to become something. Her claws and teeth will stand for her ferocity; her long spine, her strength._ _But,_ the water burbles, _what of the wisdom that yet shines in her eyes? Of her flame, that warms me yet, found of the spark that came before her form to imbue her with consciousness from her first divine breath? Will they snap out of existence? Will consciousness decay with a dying mind, ending in nothingness as it began?___ _This, I will carry_ , an unknown voice whispers, the gentle touch of eternity, _as the wind sings her song, as the earth dances to her return, as the water delivers her essence to the sea, as time flows on inexorable._ _Return to my embrace_ , _for you are beloved.___

I do wonder if I just ended up in a dead spot. For a while I was even wondering if there was some sort of phantom shadow-moderation going on there for transfolk. I'm still not convinced there isn't—the devs there seem like an oddly hostile bunch.
