2. The characters are terrible and I was bored by every single one of them. The antihero character is the one approaching interesting but they did nothing for him at all. I do not know why Jack MacHenry, the army ranger, has so much importance placed on him.

Of note is that because there were so many military-based contestant characters for a while I got confused and thought the winning Refugee lady was a Military lady (she's also adept at war situations and fighting). It's such a bizarre end MrBeast probably patted himself for thinking this up.

The winner is chosen in the strangest and dumbest way possible which surprised me and made me think I missed a chapter. It was so bad that even the Ranger and Chinese Gymnast expressed confusion as to how she won.

Recall the kid who started calling the Host "Lucifer" and "Satan". Turns out he's the Host's son and Gavin Hillshire's grandson. He takes over the games and is now in control at the very end in a very confusingly written section that makes absolutely no sense

Because the Gavin Hillshire character reveal is in the MrBeast sections which I skimmed past, I missed this, not that it's important because it'll be explained later. It's the secret organizer billionaire character from Squid Game S1, but dumber.

The Greta analogy character is also secretly trained in martial arts by her parents which made me seriously think she will be revealed to be a secret nazi. Never mind, she quits after this and she is turned into "Other Person's Girlfriend". There are two romance subplots and both are awful.

Of note is the character Saad Al-Harbi, who I am speculating may be a real-life friend of MrBeast (oneworldip.com/team/saad-al...) but can't prove at all. He gets several chapters but is unimportant since he gets killed

Game #4 is the Warzone chapter where participants are dropped in a literal warzone, that reads like a war crime. The soldiers there are expected to take care of the participants instead of fighting the war. It is unclear where the war is as it is at "Unnamed War Zone"

There's a secret society that organized the games involved. It's Squid Game, again. Mr Beast is brought in as a consultant who thinks he's the host but they don't follow his guidelines, and now he's also a contestant. Mr Beast has POV chapters that are superfluous to the plot, depicted as an angel.

Jimmy feels that in his bones. Not because he's obsessed with winning - he's obsessed with meaning. Scale. Impact. With proving something is possible.

I read the MrBeast and James Patternson (or his cadre of ghost writers) book, it is not the worst book or comically horrible but it was definitely Not Good. This will be some kid's first ever book (because they think they'll win US$1M) and it may drive they away from reading, forever SPOILERS itt

A lot of this is heavily influenced by Gellar's essay. I'd be remissed to not admit that his video helped a lot in contextualising how I felt about the legacy of my father and what he left behind. 2024 has not been the kindest of years and I'd likely be a bigger mess if not for it.
