The complex seismic wavefield from the M7.5 & M7.2 Venezuela earthquakes (24 June 2026) crossing seismic stations in Europe. The waveform was recorded at the Taunus Observatory, located near Goethe University Frankfurt (Germany). #Seismology #Earthquake #Geophysics #Venezuela #EarthObservation

Returned from an expedition to the submarine #Kavachi volcano. With the Geology Division of Solomon Islands, we’ve been studying it for years. This time, colleagues from @geomarkiel.bsky.social joined a boat cruise to collect hydroacoustic and seismic data close to the volcano. What a powerful site!

🚨 Paper alert! Did you know that zoo elephants are very active in rumbling? Check out our recent publication on temporal patterns we reveal from 1300 rumbles measured in four weeks only using seismic and acoustic sensors in the Opel Zoo in Germany. 🐘 onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....

Monitoring Zoo Elephant Rumble Activity Using Combined Seismic and Acoustic Data
At the Opel-Zoo in Germany, we studied elephant rumble activity by recording low-frequency signals with seismic and infrasound sensors. We detected over 1350 rumbles within 4 weeks that show temporal...

💡We warmly welcome Rifa and Johannes as new PhD students. 🌎Johannes develops methods to precisely locate earthquakes near geothermal power plants combining AI and fibre-optical data. 🌎Rifa works on a 3D anisotropic shear-wave velocity model of the eastern Adriatic Plate using AdriaArray data.

Seismic Signature of the 23 November 2025 Hayli Gubbi Eruption Sequence in Afar, Ethiopia
On 23 November 2025, the Hayli Gubbi volcano in the Danakil Depression (Afar, northern Ethiopia) erupted in a massive explosion. We present the first seismic characterization of this event using data ...

In November 2025, we serviced seismic stations on the flanks of the active and exceptional Oldoinyo Lengai volcano in Tanzania. First data show very high activity, and we’re excited about the insights into magmatic processes and the volcano’s interior that the seismograms will reveal.🌋
