Shoring up infrastructure can help competitiveness, while improving compliance monitoring of mining activities can support environmental and social conditions at mines and the greater communities.
Photo shows yellow trucks cris-crossing a brown and gray open pit manganese mine in South Africa's North West province. Text below reads: "3. Infrastructure, enforcement and implementation gaps can limit the potential for regional value creation. Ongoing obstacles such as unreliable power supply, environmental monitoring gaps and uneven implementation of development agreements can constrain the benefits of local mineral processing."

Simplifying existing regional trade agreements can reduce inefficiencies and unlock more intra-African critical mineral trade.
A photo shows piles of gray ore rock being moved for storage on a conveyor belt at a platinum mining site in South Africa. Text below reads: "2. Effective implementation of the AfCFTA could boost regional critical materials value chains. Harmonizing trade approaches and policies across overlapping regional arrangements under the African Continental Free Trade area could create clearer pathways for cross-border value chains."

Reducing reliance on raw mineral exports is important as African countries seek to capture more value from their mineral deposits.
Piles of brown, gray and white soil samples are arranged in a grid on the ground in South Africa, intended to allow identification of metals and mineral concentrations for possible mining. Text below the image reads: "1. Local value creation in mining can help support equitable growth and regional economic integration. When supported by robust environmental and social governance, local value creation measures, including mineral processing, can advance sustainable, inclusive growth."

Secondly: These species deliver comparable nutritional value to many other common animal proteins.

How can transport businesses reduce emissions and air pollution while improving efficiency? A new SEI framework offers transport operators a practical, step-by-step starting point: 🔗 buff.ly/gx5lksY #CleanAir #ClimateFinance #UKPACT
Title card reading "Six steps to climate and clean air action: a practical roadmap for transport businesses in Nigeria", beside a photo of electric vehicles charging under a canopy at a station in Nigeria. Photo: Folti.Diagram titled "Climate and clean air action framework for transport businesses in Nigeria". Six numbered steps run left to right across four phases: analysis (1. define scope and emission sources, 2. calculate emissions, 3. identify priority emissions sources), planning (4. take action to reduce emissions), financing and implementation (5. develop bankable projects and access climate finance) and monitoring and improvement (6. monitor, report and improve). Five cross-cutting enablers sit beneath the steps: operational efficiency, cost reduction, climate finance readiness, GEDSI integration and continuous improvement. A continuous improvement loop feeds lessons back into the process. The outcomes are grouped as environmental (reduced emissions, cleaner air and climate benefits), business (lower operating costs, improved performance, greater resilience, enhanced access to finance) and national impact (contributing to Nigeria's climate and clean air goals). GEDSI stands for gender equality, disability, and social inclusion.Cover of the report "Climate and clean air action framework: an emission reduction guide for transport businesses in Nigeria", funded by UK PACT, alongside the text "Want to learn more?
