a screenshot from the video "buy my bed" by Brian David Gilbert. in the foreground, Brian and his sister Laura have intense expressions and are green screened in with significant blotchiness from the green screen partially filtering their clothes and hair. in the background, Laura is sitting on the bed with her knees angled sharply upward holding a cigar near her mouth, gazing absently to the right. subtitles at the bottom read as follows:
- I like to smoke cigars on beds!
- [snores] Buy my bed.

apparently Jesse Eisenberg turned down playing Mark Zuckerberg again because people keep coming up to him acting as though they are the same person, which isn't *that* unusual as a thing that annoys an actor, except that this isn't even the first time he's had to deal with this
JESSE EISENBERG: "People on the street say mean things to me."
INTERVIEWER: "Like what?"
JESSE EISENBERG: "I get called Napoleon Dynamite because I have curly hair. I live in New York City and I ride a bicycle. I always bike down 9th Avenue and there’s this kid who goes to school there named Abraham. Every time I pass him, he calls me Napoleon Dynamite. He screams it out and his friends laugh. That was a fine movie but I wasn’t in it."
INTERVIEWER: "What do you say back?"
JESSE EISENBERG: "I say, 'Please Abraham, I’m not that man.'"

one more that I don't think qualifies as "underrated" but is just nice:
Roger Ebert Hails Human Existence As 'A Triumph'

April 4, 2013
CHICAGO—Calling the overall human experience “poignant,” “thought-provoking,” and a “complete tour de force,” film critic Roger Ebert praised existence Thursday as “an audacious and thrilling triumph.” “While not without its flaws, life, from birth to death, is a masterwork, and an uplifting journey that both touches the heart and challenges the mind,” said Ebert, adding that while the totality of all humankind is sometimes “a mess in places,” it strives to be a magnum opus and, according to Ebert, largely succeeds at this goal. “At times brutally sad, yet surprisingly funny, and always completely honest, I wholeheartedly recommend existence. If you haven’t experienced it yet, then what are you waiting for? It is not to be missed.” Ebert later said that while human existence’s running time was “a little on the long side,” it could have gone on much, much longer and he would have been perfectly happy.

I can't narrow it down to just one, so here are a few favs that I think are deeply underrated:
Kidnapped Teen Freed, Though Freedom Is Its Own Kind Of Prison, Is It Not?

BEDFORD, IN—The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Wednesday that Jessica Paulsen, a 15-year-old who went missing last month, has been freed from the home of two men accused of kidnapping her, although isn’t freedom itself, as both a figurative concept and a state of being, merely another kind of prison, one that entraps us all?Wendy's To Phase Out Unpopular Hamburger Sandwich

DUBLIN, OH—Representatives for the restaurant chain Wendy’s announced Tuesday that due to the item’s continually dismal performance, the company would be discontinuing the widely disliked hamburger sandwich.Arby's Now Charging $2.99 To Let Customers Go Behind Counter, Grab Handfuls Of Roast Beef

ATLANTA—During a press event at Arby’s headquarters last week, the company officially launched its new $2.99 Grab-N-Go Meal Deal, which allows patrons to go behind the counter at any franchise location and grab as much roast beef as they can with their bare hands.

“We’re thrilled to announce an exciting new dining option that lets customers step right into our kitchen and dig hands-first into our famous slow-roasted beef,” spokesman Gavin Milne said while standing in front of a cardboard cutout that depicted Oven Mitt—the Arby’s mascot—cupping a steaming mound of beef slices. “As soon as we ring up your transaction, you have 15 seconds to grab all the meat you can carry, and however much you manage to bring back across the counter is yours to eat—all for under $3! Who could resist?”17-Year Cicadas Horrified To Learn About 9/11

May 7, 2013
NEW YORK—Following their synchronized emergence this week after gestating underground since 1996, a colossal swarm of 17-year cicadas were horrified today to learn about the events of September 11, 2001. “Holy shit, are you serious?” said one member of the East Coast brood of winged insects, expressing its continued shock and horror about the coordinated terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of 3,000 people. “They just flew the planes right into the fucking buildings? Man, oh, man. People must have just been completely freaking out. Christ, I know I would have been.” At press time, the 17-year cicadas were beginning to express serious doubts about how two structures supported by reinforced concrete and steel beams could just collapse like that.

I have something controversial to say: they should make these with space for seven cups arranged in a circle, with one in the center. it wouldn't be that much harder to carry and would frequently allow a group order to fit in just one container instead of requiring one in both hands.

a screenshot of my letterboxd review of Collateral, the 2004 Michael Mann film, which I watched today. I gave it four stars and wrote the following:

"you know how people make those highly specific letterboxd lists where it's a really narrow category and they've identified exactly two movies that fit in it, and then they screenshot it and post it on other social media? if my goal was to increase my bluesky follower count I'd do one that's called "movies where the main character spends most of the movie driving one type of vehicle around LA, but then at the end all the main characters get on an LA Metro subway that eventually emerges above ground," and it would be this movie and Speed (1994). instead I'm going to just screenshot this review and it's going to get two likes"

I'm pleased to announce that the most cursed camera input of all (phone camera to USB C to HDMI to USB A to USB C) *is* recognized as a real, working camera by the Switch 2. it's not high enough resolution to be used, though I suspect that's due to my phone's weird aspect ratio.

there's a character named Raymond Chandler in The Stepford Wives, and I couldn't recall whether the real author would've been alive when it came out (1975), so I searched for it. it turns out that Google is so desperate to not create fake idioms now that it's lying in the opposite direction
a Google search result for the words "raymond chandler stepford wives." there's an AI-generated result that reads as follows:

"The query "raymond chandler stepford wives" is a bit of a mix. Raymond Chandler was a famous author, primarily known for his hard-boiled detective fiction, not for writing about "Stepford Wives." The concept of "Stepford Wives," as in the novel and films, is from the work of Ira Levin. There is no connection between Raymond Chandler and the Stepford Wives story.
Elaboration:
Raymond Chandler:
He was a prominent American writer, best known for creating the private detective Philip Marlowe and for his influence on the crime fiction genre.
The Stepford Wives:
This is a novel and subsequent film adaptation that explores a dystopian society where women are replaced with robotic look-alikes.
No Connection:
Raymond Chandler's writing style and themes are entirely different from the premise of "The Stepford Wives," and there is no evidence of him being involved in the creation of the story."

one of my favorite things in older movies is watching the ways that characters hold wired telephones; having an extremely long wire that stretches around a doorframe is pretty good, but my favorite thing is when a character just walks around cradling the base of the phone.
a screenshot from the movie Possession (1981). Mark (played by Sam Neill) is in a small kitchen, and he's holding the base of a yellow phone in his right hand close to his waist and the handset in his left hand up to his face. a subtitle reads, "Now I must find her - maybe it's her fault."
