Girl is devoured. World blames the girl.
Girl wonders how this could happen to her.
Girl loses her mind. Girl gets angry.
Girl wants to be heard but every time she tells someone, her voice feels coated with tar.
Girl feels the wound insider her grow.
girl is afraid the wound will one day get
so big she will drown in it. Girl finally tells
someone and they ask what did she do to
ask for it. Girl doesn't speak of it again.
Girl wonders if she deserved it. Girl tries
to forget. And tried to forget. And tries to forget.
But memories have teeth that become fangs.
And fangs have never learned how to let go.

Eventually she becomes a locked door.
Eventually she learns that to devour is better
than to be devoured.
Eventually she becomes the wolf they fear.

Tell Congress to protect #UnaccompaniedChildren #ICE #Immigration ➡️ actionnetwork.org/letters/restore-l…
actionnetwork.org
Restore Legal Services for Unaccompanied Children
This week, the government froze legal services for unaccompanied children, leaving over 26,000 children without access to their legal counsel. This strands children, some as young as toddlers, without the help they need to succeed in their immigration cases. Many children are forced to migrate without their parents or legal guardians because of things out of their control, such as poverty or violence. It is virtually impossible for a child to successfully navigate complex legal proceedings alone, without an attorney. The Unaccompanied Children Program is essential to making sure that vulnerable children are not alone, and have the legal representation and support they need to be empowered and informed. Contact your members of Congress and demand a restoration to these life-saving services.

Finding your Role in the Work
with Mariame Kaba
July 8, 7pm ET/ 4pm PT

This session with visionary, legendary organizer and activist Mariame Kaba, author of We Do This ‘Till We Free Us, Let This Radicalize You (with Kelly Hayes) and other books, helps participants identify their most sustainable and effective role in social change—not based on what feels most urgent or visible, but on what actually fits their skills, capacities, relationships, and lived realities. This will involve an overview of the various roles that people play in movements; looking at the ways in which our identities, skills; capacities; and contexts shape each of our possibilities; discerning between urgency-driven action and sustainable contribution; looking at shifting roles over time so as to prevent burnout. https://www.lifeisasacredtext.com/learntodo/
