Great weather day after a full day of rain yesterday meant smol-ish pup insisted we all go outside and stay there. She's now sleeping it off using a garden glove as a pillow. Neither creature was helpful with the weeding.

Had to go to three different places looking for a money order (no bank branch in town), still forget to pick up the batteries I needed and managed to come home without snacks. Also, it's very wet outside.

The Nooksack floods. It floods because settlers built in the floodplain and every other season, the waters do what they've always done and seek to move across the landscape. No judgement for this gathering, coming together in community is a good thing, but until the river has more room to move...

I rarely repost this cretin, but it feels important to mark the deep pathology here if for no other reason that it's a danger to dismiss this man as "crazy". Yes, and also, given our system, he has unlimited power to harm. It's dark because this is how he sees the world, dark. Plan to vote.

Still no, hell no. And if you're wearing one of these, necklace or pervert classes, you're allowing yourself to be surveilled and violating the privacy of everyone around you. It's very not cute. Again--what company is making the blocking device for all this nonsense? I want to buy stock.

Started the day with coffee and this audio featuring artist Nikki Lindt's work capturing the sounds of a changing artic. Not sure how it ended up in my feeds on LinkedIn of all places, but it's a good thing for a Sunday morning. www.wbur.org/hereandnow/2...

What does a changing climate sound like?
A warming climate brings plenty of visible changes, such as retreating glaciers and rising sea levels. Nikki Lindt is on a mission to capture its audible changes.

There always comes the day when I have to decide if I cave and turn on the heat or light the fire or if I just sit here and shiver... Sweater weather is here.

When I stepped over to this platform, I got quieter about the professional risk work I do, but I miss it so... Last year a very stark report from the UK's intelligence community surfaced, this week at the UN they shared some of it with other nations. The Guardian lays it out (with good links). 🧵

The snow geese are back in the Skagit!! When I was out at Summer Lake Oregon a few weeks ago surrounded by central flyway birds, I mentioned this winter migration. Geese and swans. Thousands of them. They chatter and hum, and when they lift the sky takes flight. www.instagram.com/reels/DdsV-t...

Don't think supply chains ever really went back to normal after the pandemic. There's regular holes now, have you noticed? Not just since the most recent debacle, for years now. Enough my brain's been reprogrammed to go "oh, that's back in stock, need to get a couple while it's in". It's just weird.

The minor-madness of having to track down records proving family members born in 1847 and 1877 are well and truly dead is a little something. I only wish I was walking around with those sorts of longevity genes and still able to have the Great (great) Grand-das and Grandmamas over for Sunday suppers

Cloudy morning turned into a perfect September day, pulled weeds, dug into a NATO job (maybe?!), planted a new black currant. Dogs are watching the world from the deck. Feels very much like the "hustle and get things in order" season matched with "I'll just sit out here with a hat and read some".

Plugged in my little chest freezer this afternoon...feeling a weird mix of "savvy I am, with the deep freeze" and "oh my god, I've turned into my grandparents". Anyway, I live on an island, meat comes from the farmer in bulk, I've got 10lbs of apples I need to put somewhere (and it's cube cute).
