Amazing! That's actually my kid's baby toy. Started looking for stuff around me that would look funky out of context.

Picked up The Peddler's Prize from @graftbound.bsky.social last week. Been too afraid to use the sheets that come with the book so I made one of my own? Not sure how that will affect the experience. But I've read the book and can't wait to give this a shot either way! #solottrpg #ttrpg

4. Will & Harper I had no idea what to expect going into this. Pleasantly surprised to find a beautiful story of two best friends, a road trip, and being true to yourself.

Played a game of Moon Rings by @junkfoodgames.bsky.social a couple days ago. Went from smooth sailing to getting my butt whooped real quick. But had a great time nonetheless. Looking forward to taking my notes and turning them into a longer form journal entry!

The Alabama Solution Talking about this movie from an entertainment standpoint feels weird. But I'll just say this was an incredibly well made and edited documentary. More people should watch this.

Finally finished this. Really struggled with Favorite Protagonist and Overrated (the latter is just not my vibe. I think it's fine).

A grid of video games labeled "About Me: Video Games" featuring games like Grandia, Star Fox, Pokemon and much more. There are several categories like Favorite Game, Favorite Antagonist and Needs a Remake

The Phantom Menace -- I love this movie purely for personal reasons. Its flaws are apparent but I choose to ignore them and enjoy the ride, as bumpy as it is. I even watched it on VHS this time to really settle into the nostalgia.

Still enjoying that Gameboy Camera. Here are a few faves:

It's been a couple years since I read Becky Chamber's A Prayer for the Crown Shy and this scene is still a gut punch. It's such a beautifully sorrowful moment, one that I think about often if I'm being honest, and it's what made me fall in love with this book and Monk and Robot as a whole.

And we wrap things up talking to the townsfolk. I *LOVE* the hymn of the fayth. You can feel the sadness and yet, at this point, you have absolutely no idea why that is the case. Side note, I wish we got to learn more about the crusaders, like in a spinoff game or something. #ffx

I love Besaid Island. The music really captures the vibe of this game - of finding calm and beauty amidst tragedy. Big fan of the pre-rendered backgrounds and fixed camera angles. I know we won't go back but it's a powerful tool I'd love to see return to how games tell stories. #ffx

Secondhand Took @secondhandtook.bsky.social · 18/11/2024

#ffx I look back on this part with frustration. I couldn't get a memory card back on ps2 so I played this part too many times for weeks. That being said, years later it's fun to try and catch the clues like this chamber that looks like the entrance to a temple! Oh, and the fan service begins... -_-

Secondhand Took @secondhandtook.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

Last thoughts are the same I had as a kid. Even though I know the story I still get that sense of "What in the actual flip" is happening when Sin appears. It's awe inspiring, it's scary and it's bizarre wrapped in one. And somehow Auron looks badass the whole time. That last image stays w/ me. #FFX

Secondhand Took @secondhandtook.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

I know "destroyed hometown." But it felt like Square was sending a message that they were trying a new approach in a world post-FF7. Literally destroying a highly advanced city. My only regret is that we don't spend more time in Zanarkand. The wide shot really shows the scope of it all.

Secondhand Took @secondhandtook.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

I must have played through this intro 1000 times. Didn't have a PS2 memory card back when I first got this. Despite some trauma that has never gone away from that, the intro cutscene still gets me amped every time. #FFX

Secondhand Took @secondhandtook.bsky.social · 13/11/2024

I may have joined a FFX "book club." Figured I'd start a thread to log my thoughts as I replay the game. And to maybe hold me accountable. Idk.

So that's it! Those are (almost) 20 books important to me. I don't think I covered them all but I think it's a good snapshot. Reading is so critical, so find what you love regardless of genre, cultural expectations, etc. and just embrace it.

The Lord of the Rings And now we come full circle. This is my go to copy to read. I have other editions but they feel more like collectibles. Used to read the trilogy about every 2 years. That has stalled in recent years but I'll pick it up now and again to read a little and relax.

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind I LOVE the Ghibli movies. And Nausicaa was the 1st dvd I got in the mail when Netflix first started. It sent me down a path as a creative that I don't think would have happened otherwise. It took me 16 years to get around to the comics and I'm glad I finally did.

The Flowers of Evil I don't know if I'll ever read this series again. And many times I have thought about getting rid of my copies. But my, what a story. I don't know what I expected but it didn't matter because this story was anything but normal. I don't know if I'd recommend haha.

Secondhand Took @secondhandtook.bsky.social · 10/11/2024

Scott Pilgrim Comic Series I don't remember if the movie inspired me to read the books or not. But I definitely read them around the time. While some things haven't aged the best, it's a snapshot into my college years that I will always cherish.

Leviathan Wakes I bought this while on a trip in Colorado. And man, did it suck me in. And one of the few series that made me miss the characters when I finished reading. This was the right blend of sci Fi for me. I hope to collect the whole series at some point.

The Stand Good friend of mine recommended this to me while talking about the LOTR novels. I loved it, despite the story's sheer size. Standout to me was every character feeling worth reading. Read this right before the pandemic so it felt very surreal to see some things play out the way they did.

Into Thin Air Another book-club book. This stands out for being one of the few non-fiction titles I have read (and subsequently own). This was such a fascinating read and I couldn't stop learning about this tragic event for weeks afterwards.

Mouse Guard Comic Book I remember seeing someone drawing a MG character at my first comic con. I LOVED the style and wanted to know where it was from. So started my brief Mouse Guard obsession. It has waned with the books stalling, but I love dipping back into what we have now and again.

The Once and Future King Another theme of choice. I had the choice of books to read the summer into 9th grade. Unfortunately I procrastinated. So I spent the last week+ of summer plowing through this book and writing a report. It was tough but I remember how much closure I felt when I finished.

Mistborn (and original trilogy) This may have been why I was gifted the Stormlight Hardcovers. While the aesthetic of Mistborn didn't grip me, the story, twists and turns and characters did. I recommended this to as many friends as possible. My copies are damaged but I don't want to get rid of them

Way of Kings and Oathbringer I'll lump these two together. I don't remember why but I was gifted the hardcovers for Xmas. I spent about a year being blown away by these stories. I remember being stuck in an Airbnb and reading Oathbringer for about 10 hours straight. Couldnt wait for 4th book.

Eragon There's a theme of choice to my um... Choices I was visiting my dad one summer. Going on a road trip and stopped at book store. There was a display for Eragon. I was instantly drawn to it. Book captivated me the whole trip. No longer own the sequels but I can't get rid of my first copy.

Halo: The Fall of Reach In my early to mid-teens I was very into video games. And I expanded that obsession into books. Most of them are gone from my shelf now, but these first few halo novels will never leave. It was a way for me to explore those worlds beyond the game and I cherish them for it.
