We had the opportunity to write a comment in @cp-trendsbiochem.bsky.social about an exciting study by Arkaitz Carracedo and his team. Their exciting study reveals new functions of polyamines, specifically how they can shield phosphorylation sites from kinases. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti....

Polyamine-dependent metabolic shielding regulates alternative splicing - Nature
Polyamines prevent the action of kinases on acidic phosphorylatable motifs in spliceosomal proteins, thus providing a mechanism for metabolite-mediated regulation of alternative splicing in cells.

💡 "Do metabolic fluxes change with age?" I'm happy to share an invited spotlight article we wrote for @cp-trendsendomet.bsky.social, based on an amazing recent publication by Connor Jankowski and the Joshua Rabinowitz lab in @cp-cellmetabolism.bsky.social. Links below 👇 www.cell.com/trends/endoc...

Do metabolic fluxes change with age?
Metabolomes change with age. Yet, fluxomics points to a contradiction: Jankowski et al. in Cell Metabolism report shifts in metabolite concentrations in aged mice, alongside largely preserved metaboli...

Can fasting boost vaccine protection as we age? A trial at #mdcBerlin is testing intermittent fasting before flu & COVID shots to strengthen immunity in adults 60+. Aging weakens the immune system, but fasting may restore autophagy and improve vaccine responses. 🔗 www.mdc-berlin.de/news/news/bo...

This is how you write editorials: you own what you say, and you put your name, even if it's "by the entire team". Someone needs to take responsibility. Kudos to Nonia and the journal. #SignYourEditorials

Phase separation of p62: roles and regulations in autophagy
The phase separation of the cargo receptor sequestome-1/p62 (SQSTM1/p62) is a critical mechanism for assembling signaling complexes in autophagy. During this process, p62 undergoes phase separation upon binding to polyubiquitin chains, concentrating…
