It is Jan 2027, Senate Minority Leader Thune takes the senate floor and delivers an impassioned speech about the need to overturn citizens united, lol

To be clear I don’t think MS is flipping as much as I wish it would, to your point, I don’t think the math is there. However, we need to be able to make states competitive somehow

Wouldn’t part of the argument for MS be that having a moderately well funded black statewide candidate + Calais would put black turnout through the roof?

I’m grateful to President @barackobama.bsky.social for his support. I hear it in every county I visit: costs keep going up, families are worried about their healthcare and their hospitals, and folks feel like Washington stopped listening a long time ago. We're going to change that on November 3rd.

My take here is that he is effective because he had a nonpolitician background where his job was to distill complex and intangible problems so average person could digest them. He effectively talks like a documentary narrator, not a politician/dr/lawyer/whatever other path normally leads to congress

I’m a Bankhead hater too, but I think Hamilton stands for the proposition that if Bodnar had just ran as a dem, we wouldn’t be in this situation either. That said, Bankhead is 100% the reason this race is not competitive

Id argue Klein and the podbros would look at this and think its the way forward, I definitely dont put them on the same camp as Yglesias.

That is kind of where I’m stuck, though my thought process is that if you aren’t caucusing with the dems you dont count toward our majority regardless of whatever agreements we get from the hypothetical indies from ID, NE and SD

Its funny how in Jan of this year the question was whether we could get to 51 and the question now, at least for me, is if there is a world where we break 60

My question is why is Hobbs hiring a republican legislative director when dems control both chambers and are likely to grow the majorities

Another gem from Swenk is that at a hearing in the Senate in January or February he said that if he was removed he would call on members of the public to storm the government building in Pierce to prevent his removal.

My two cents is that AMR should not be mayor. Being mayor is where your career goes to die. She should run for the Jayapal seat (or the Smith seat if she lives in that part of Seattle) where she can continue improving people’s lives for as long as she wants to stay involved

I think this is ultimately correct. AES‘s loss would be used as a cudgel against progressive candidates going forward, ESPECIALLY against an AOC 2028 campaign

We need dems who can talk with this level of moral clarity. If James Talarico can speak like this, there is no excuse for the rest of us

I gave Colom some money recently with the thought process that T1 races (NC, ME, MI*, GA) and T2 races (TX, AK, IA) are already flush with cash, so looking at races further down the list to donate might make sense. *Probably still makes sense to send money to AES

Tbh LA is 57, SC is 58, FL is 59 and if that Arkansas poll is to be believed, then AR is 60

The “problem” with this outcome is that then ‘28 becomes about stopping AOC from governing with a filibuster proof senate majority. And that is going to melt a lot of GOP (and moderate dem) brains.

Lefties in Seattle have gone to bat for him since he lost the D4 race but I never saw what people see in him. I went to multiple events during his city council race and found him to b mean spirited and petty. Wasn’t surprised when he lost then and am not surprised he lost now.

Maybe it just comes down to the simplest of electoral math: when two candidates have the same or very similar positions you just endorse the one with the most money as they’re the one that will most likely win!

“But Ron Davis’ recent sour-grapes email to his supporters about the Stranger—in which he even seems to take issue with the fact that they make endorsements— says more about him than about the paper“ Yes! Exactly! People on here (and probably Davis himself!) felt entitled to that endorsement.

I think that is super fair, I just keep getting stuck on the fact that Hyde Smith won her last two elections 54-46 and 56-44, which tells me that she underperforms.

Yeah, its terrible. Would not be surprised if Bankhead is a GOP plant. I do think after Kansas the order is something like SC, FL, MS. And from there I dont really think its worth talking about because we arent flipping Idaho or Arkansas lol
