This is correct. Eliza isn't solving Navier-Stokes. And never could. Modern LLMs are solving actual problems. They are goal driven and figure out sophisticated multi-step processes to achieve that goal. Which is as good a definition of intelligence as any.

There's a tremendous amount of misinformation about data centers going around right now. Some critiques are justified. Many are not. I think there's a massive emotional component that is letting people believe whatever they want. Jon Bateman goes into this at some depth:

I'm no expert here by any means, just looking at the data and drawing reasonable conclusions. Not sure how a gap would play into it. Most grids don't have a huge excess of power, generally. So to build gigawatt data centers you *have* to have new generation.

Sean @seanspeer.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
Texas has the largest data center growth (behind VA, for obvious reasons. (See: www.electricchoice.com/datacenters/) And TX is *also* the second best state for clean energy (after CA): filterbuy.com/resources/ac... This is *exactly* the situation you want: data centers powered by clean energy.
000
Sean @seanspeer.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
Also note that the states where data centers are being built (TX, ND, ID, etc.) are *also* the states with some of the largest clean energy buildouts.

Sean @seanspeer.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
The data centers have to have power to function, so they build power alongside. You can't have more data centers without more power. Categorically. And as more power comes online, price declines. The data is very clear here.

" States with contracting load were often those with higher price increase [for residential customers]"

Sean @seanspeer.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
What is literally says is the more you build, the lower rates become. Across the board. Some regional variance, but the overall trend remains. And the costs are across the grid, so corp or residential customers, both. If you want lower cost electricity, build for more electricity.

It is factually untrue that data centers drive up electricity costs. In fact, the opposite is true: everywhere we see increasing energy demand, we see prices dropping. X-axis is load growth. Y is price. Far right and down means more growth and less cost. eta-publications.lbl.gov/sites/defaul...

Eliana Dockterman at Time Magazine gets to this accurately: it's not the rape and pillage *as acts themselves*, but rather the violation of xenia. Her explication of this in Nolan's film is pretty great, IMHO. (Note: I haven't yet seen the film.) time.com/article/2026...

There is no size specified on the map. It merely says data center. Also, the data centers in the Bay Area are 200,000+ sq ft. So your numbers are also way off. www.datacenters.com/lumen-sunnyv... Even SF data centers are 180,000+ sq ft. www.novva.com/data-center-... The map is dead wrong.

I suspect its going to be like Unix: a ton of small special-purpose apps/functions/agents/etc. that get put together to do the things you want. Is each piece something you made? No. Is the whole conglomeration something unique to you? Most certainly.

Same reason no one is able to bank online. It's impossible to have secure online systems!; no one has an online bank. Can't send money. Cant transfer. Can't send money abroad. Just totally unworkable. So all money has to be done with cash in person and not online. Simply impossible. Too many bugs.

Black text on a white page that reads as follows:

In January, our administration inherited a $12 billion budget deficit — a fiscal crisis greater than the Great Recession.

Today I am proud to announce that our balanced budget has cleared the final step and passed the New York City Council.

We balanced the budget by taxing the rich and making government more efficient. We did not balance this budget on the backs of working people, and we never will.

Every year that follows will build on these principles: Honest budgeting. Fiscal discipline. Transparent government. And an unwavering belief that working people deserve a government that delivers for them every day.
