It’s that time of year again, and as usual these past few seasons I’m getting a late start… fingers crossed for a sunny September :)

We saw The Odyssey last night. Enjoyed it a lot, but kept wondering how many of Nolan’s scenes were inspired by this classic 🤣 #TheOdyssey

Just going to put it out there that once, in the early 2000s in upstate New York, @tessaj65.bsky.social and I had a stormy boat trip and got lost on the way to Ithaca… and not once did Christopher Nolan contact us about the movie rights…

Bought these shoes back in ‘86 for a formal at university. They’ve seen several black tie events since then as well as my wedding and my brother’s wedding. Now, thanks to some TLC from Stephanie at Starlight Shoe Repair in Gibsons they’re looking spiffy for my niece’s wedding!

Serendipity – when two ancestral lines converge
In my in-depth research into my 8th great-grandmother, Sarah Larkin, I came across a relationship that took me completely by surprise. The discovery itself was quite by accident as the surname in question isn't an unusual one in the area I'm researching, so I hadn't even considered a family connection to be a possibility. Serendipity indeed. What was this discovery? Sarah Larkin's older sister, Mary (my 9th great-aunt), married my 8th great-grandfather, Richard Knowler (click image to enlarge):

Great piece from Kevin Newman in The Line. loved this bit: “The gallows humour, the hypervigilance, the compulsive need to know what was happening right now — these weren’t personality quirks. They were occupational adaptations, shared and therefore normalized.” www.readtheline.ca/p/kevin-newm...

The Canadian women can leave Italy with heads held high. To take a team that dominated you all year, and pasted you 5-0 in the prelims, to OT in the final is a thing to be proud of and sends a message to the US squad that they too are mortals ;) #MilanoCortinaOlympics2026

I think I’ve finally figured it out. Someone told POTUS that Gordie Howe’s play in the corners was the inspiration for “elbows up.” It would have been a pretty short journey from there to getting mad about a bridge named after Gordie. It’s the only way it tracks!
