The very odd phrasing of this announcement makes me wonder if it’s an iffy translation or there’s some strange legal situation where the movie as a product (or physical product) cannot be sold. Like, streaming is okay but no blurays or if this just means the characters and music can be used.
Slide from a recent Bigwest Macross panel announcing “the distribution of the super dimension fortress Macross do you remember love” audiovisual content will be included as part of the existing Macross Franchise worldwide”

I always advocate for folks to avoid recast kits, but I'm still utterly fascinated by the weird ones. Like this, a resin copy of a plastic Imai kit that has extensive instructions in English including a random suggestion that women not use CA glue zip kicker on fake nails (??)

Also, in regards to all those unused mecha designs. That they were rescued and cataloged at all is thanks to the efforts of Roger Harkavy. Had he not figured that out, they'd likely have disappeared forever. You can find some of those materials in Udon's ROBOTECH Visual Archives books.

Plenty of acclaimed series faced early cancellations (Gundam, Macross) but Mospeada feels like the most tantalizing "what if" scenario, had the longer series run followed through. Huge amounts of unused designs were being sketched throughout the series' run.

Convinced that Ridley Scott has zero clue what made his films work or even a shred of a clue of why they were beloved. Can’t think of a director with a worse record on sequels… Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator… all duds.

The irony of this is that Siembieda inadvertently shot himself in the foot. His TMNT RPG went from selling 50k copies a year down to 6k as TMNT became known as a kids show and brand. Palladium probably wasn’t hurting too bad thanks to the Robotech RPG (published in 1986) but that’s a big drop off.

Happened to come across a copy of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Raphael #1 and the editorial talks about how the licensing agent who set the Turtles on the path to toys and cartoons first heard about the comic from Kevin Siembieda of Palladium Games (and laughed his ass off at the name).
Editorial text from TMNT Raphael #1 (1987) discussing the earliest steps toward licensing and the multi media juggernaut the series would become.

Hand printing labels for my next resin kit using an old Riso Gocco hand printer. Riso made these for the Japanese market for household projects like making custom news years cards and I’ve read that at one point like 1/4 of all Japanese households had one. Messy and imprecise, they’re neat.

One thing that doesn't get talked about much with Trump's tariffs and the removal of the de minimis exemption is that shipping companies (in this case UPS) are literally making more off fees than the US is getting in actual tariff revenue.

It even has that black stripe around the cockpit… Anyways, this is sort of relevant because in one or two interviews Kazutaka Miyatake of Studio Nue has mentioned Yokoyama was involved in the early design process for the TV series.

TIL Running Man was called "Battle Runner" in Japanese and one of the Japanese editions of the book had this cool photo (illustration?) of Arnold on the cover. Between the name and the flared collar in the photo, you could *almost* think they were trying to go for a Blade Runner look.

Thought I was going crazy when I just now saw a photo of the Betty from Alien Resurrection and was like "are those...?" but apparently the ship was first designed as a model kitbash so those are very clearly VF-1 Valkyrie forearms hanging off the side there.

The Art of Angel’s Egg reprint (released this month to coincide with the 4k restoration) is a great way to revisit a long out of print book. For fans of Mamoru Oshii and Yoshitaka Amano it’s worth picking up though like the name suggests it’s really just artwork, very little text.

In the realm of largely forgotten '80s cartoons with dubious legal situations, where does Mighty Orbots sit? Looks like someone has a bunch of official Mighty Orbots social media accounts and a page teasing a new Kickstarter campaign for a toy but there's like, zero copyright info anywhere.

It's May 2, 2000. 2am. You fire up your USENET reader and check out what's happening on alt.fan.bgcrisis. The top thread is about whether or not Priss would hate the Communists because it would make a really good story for someone's Duke Nukem 3D total conversion. Time to go back to sleep.

So the kicker here is that the guy running it, Mike Kiley, went to go work for a new upstart in the industry to jump start their online retail business. The company? TokyoPop. (well, Mixx, this was when TokyoPop was just the name of their web shop)

Digging through USENET archives and one thing that sticks out is how much people loved this place for decent prices, brand new product, and lots of special orders and recent releases. When the shop's closure was announced in November 1998, a lot of people were upset.
