My cat passed away last night, it's sad, but I'm glad he's not in pain anymore. We were gonna have him put to sleep today, but he didn't make it. Went out in our lap. Thanks for the years of memories, rest well little fellow. You fought long and hard, I'm glad we could be there when you needed us.

(When I say hundreds, I probably mean thousands. The counter stops at 999, and we maxed it out for both P1 and P2 on one save file, and have had dozens of save files over the years!)

I played hundreds of "Random Battles" with my siblings in SA2 Battle, where loser would hand the controller off, and we'd just select Random. Whatever character and stage we got we stuck with. Taught me to really love all 3 gameplay styles in the game!

I've noticed that many newer YouTubers don't seem to talk about the good in something without mentioning the bad in something else. They ask "Why does A work, when B doesn't?" Instead of "Why does A work, what makes it so good?" Not every discussion needs to be a debate or argument, just geek out!

After 2028, however, sales will slow considerably. It will likely reach 40 million by 2029, but will steadily sell from there till the end of its lifespan. All this is assuming we still have the means to buy a game console by then that is.
000
Sdudyoy @sdudyoy.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
I think it's likely to reached about 32 million units by mid-2027, and, if we get something like a new 3D Mario, Animal Crossing, or Smash Bros next year, we could see it reach closer to 34-36 million by 2028. Pokemon will boost sales as well, especially if we get a Lite model to release by it.

Sdudyoy @sdudyoy.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
Early adopters are Core Nintendo fans, and Tech-Enthusiasts. They'd buy the hardware regardless, and with stock to spare, it makes sense the console has reached more than 20 million sales so far. But, things will slow from here, only to be boosted when we get some core titles.

I think the Switch 2 will be a moderate success compared to the Switch 1. Lifetime sales will likely reach somewhere around 50-70 million units, unless something changes in the next few years where the prices can come down. I think it'll appeal less broadly, and more to Nintendo's core fanbase.

Sdudyoy @sdudyoy.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
This would mean that the Switch likely has a unique player-base of around 100-120 Million, with around 60-70 million of those being active, a fair bit smaller than 156 Million, but nothing to sneeze at. But, how will this affect the Switch 2?
100
Sdudyoy @sdudyoy.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
So, people who adopted late, have no reason to buy a second. By the time 2020 had concluded, the console reached around 80 million sales. Year 1 and 2 buyers wouldn't yet have much incentive to upgrade except for the Lite, but that console only accounts for about 16% of console sales anyway.
100
Sdudyoy @sdudyoy.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
So, I'm just gonna spitball here and say, the Switch has on average, 1.25 Consoles per individual who bought the console. Many would've upgraded or replaced their original console somewhere into the lifespan of the Switch, but the sales weren't linear. They sped up later into the consoles life.
100
Sdudyoy @sdudyoy.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
So, let's say MK8 has around 70 Million unique buyers, and NSO has around 35 Million Subscribers. This implies that the Switch has sits in at least 70 Million households, with half that being active users. This means that, these 35 Million users are the most likely to buy new games/consoles.

Sdudyoy @sdudyoy.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
With Mario Kart 8 Deluxe reaching 71 Million in sales on Switch, we can conclude there are AT LEAST that many unique Switch owners (Although there is a handful of people who probably bought the game physically AND digitally, or purchased multiple copies per-household, or just re-bought the game)
100
Sdudyoy @sdudyoy.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
That's not even considering that "Multiple Switch's Per Household" isn't exactly uncommon with a portable console. Nintendo hasn't reported on the number of Subscribers to NSO in a couple years, but the latest data I can find shows it at 34 Million Subscribers.

The original Switch saw a revision with a more efficient CPU, the console has received many special edition versions, the Lite is often seen as a companion system to the OG, and then there was the OLED model. With a near ten year lifespan, I've got no doubt most people bought an extra Switch.

One thing I've been curious about for a bit now, regarding the original Switch's sales now reaching 156 Million (156.59m) units in console sales, a question I wish I had an answer to is, how many of those sales are from "Double Dipping"?

I may not ever become the greatest artist, or the best at writing, but no matter what, I'll never lose my passion for my creations. I'll be damned if I hand them over to some slop-machine.

I never got a chance to play it, (Didn't yet have any disposable income), but man did I consider buying it just for the Sonic and Portal stuff!

Oh man, I so badly wanted to step into the backgrounds of these games as a kid. If I ever get an open world Sonic, I wouldn't mind at all if it just let me roam the world of Sonic. Running from Chemical Plant, to Casino Night, and exploring every inch of it. I looked at those buildings for HOURS!

I never got into Star Wars, but I'll defend the prequels without having seen them, because when my friend was a kid, the only character that made those movies worth watching to her was Jar Jar Binks due to "The movies being so boring at least I had a character to laugh at!"

Zelda and Sonic fans share one thing in common (Besides an open world-like game dividing the fandom up in the past decade) and that's that, no matter how much they hate a game in their franchise, they always say: "At least the music is good!"

Considering you're one of the few people I see consistently defend aspects of any Sonic game, I definitely don't see how you could dislike Sonic. I'd call you an advocate, you WANT what's best for the Hedgehog. If you have to point out what you feel are flaws, that's part of advocating for him.

9 Games that defined who I am These aren't necessarily my favorites, but these are games that have stuck with me in various ways, or were what brought me to love a specific series. Each of these games impacted me in various ways, at different stages of my life!

I've never been a GTA fan, so I can't speak for everyone, but is a bunch of tacky giftshop-like items with "Vice City" slapped on them really worth 400 dollars? Because without the game, this just feels like a bunch of merch you could buy online for much cheaper.

On paper, I can understand and even agree with Internet Age verification. In reality, I don't trust a single company/government to do so in a way that benefits us or our children. It's all about censorship. Internet safety desperately needs taught to kids again, idc if it's in school or by parents.

Yes, yes. Sure, it DOES have a long introduction and all, but it was so ridiculous that playing it didn't feel long lol, I never knew what to expect. Then it has Fabio in it once you make it through, so it's worth it: (He's talking about the guy that I chose, this man fell in love at first sight.)

I'm that werido. (Although I DO enjoy the series as a whole, even the new one!) Engage WAS the Classic Fire Emblem game so many people have been asking for, and they just slept on it! The story was "Too corny!" sure, but sometimes I LOVE me a bowl of Corn!

Fortune's Weave is MUCH more streamlined than Three Houses, but sometimes, I just wanna continue through the story, meet some funny new characters, and play a few maps in a Strategy RPG without having to plan out my entire in game month to ensure I don't miss anything important, y'know?

Sdudyoy @sdudyoy.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Because these games are costing more to make, they have to justify the higher costs by adding more content, and things like the Calendar system are neat in concept, but ultimately just get in the way of the actually gameplay experience in my opinion. They feel more like bloat, than content to me.

But, I'm just lamenting the death of the dedicated handheld a bit. Franchises like Fire Emblem were perfect for handheld, they never needed to be all that graphically impressive. The Pre-Rendered cut-scenes of the 3DS games filled any gaps.

Sdudyoy @sdudyoy.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
That's a near full decade, and Switch 2 development will take longer than Switch 1. Koei Tecmo not having any involvement in Fortune's Weave tells me that Three Houses was a one time thing. I WANT the teams to have plenty of time to develop games by the way!
100
Sdudyoy @sdudyoy.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Moving over from the 3DS to the Switch was probably pretty hard on the team, and knowing that Three Houses and Engage began development around the same time, does explain that, IntSys likely struggled a LOT at first. This means that, they've only had 2 FE games they've managed to release since 2017.

Sdudyoy @sdudyoy.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Hopefully with the groundwork laid, Intelligent Systems is in a place where they're able to keep things more consistent with the series. Style-wise, it's been all over the place since the Switch generation. I'd love to see them go back and remake Genealogy of the Holy War next!

We got Engage in 2023, although, this one was likely completed in 2021, as it was rated by the ESRB then, Nintendo then sat on it for another two years. This one didn't hit for a lot of people, but I still vastly prefer it to Three Houses for having more traditional FE gameplay.
100
Sdudyoy @sdudyoy.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Seemingly, the trend would continue into the Switch era, we got Three Houses in 2019, which was one the biggest single FE game up to that point. But, we know that it only released so soon, because it was developed almost entirely by Koei Tecmo, with only a handful from IntSys supervising it.

Sdudyoy @sdudyoy.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
That gets me thinking, back on the 3DS, we got Awakening in 2012, Fates in 2015 and Echoes in 2017, so a new title every 2-3 years. If one of these games disappointed you, or didn't quite scratch the itch, there was another right around the corner.

Enjoying Nintendo's latest "Sword Anime Game" as some will lovingly call it. But I can't help but feel worried that development on these games might have ballooned. Fortunes Weave is a MASSIVE game, sure--But, I just hope we don't have to wait 5 years for the next game.

I'd love to see more Classic Sonic games then! Where's our Classic Sonic mobile spinoff, HUH? Sonic Drift 3, Spinball 2, 3D Blast 2! (Actually what I REALLY want is another Superstars game, but, it WOULD be kill to see Classic Sonic getting more titles!)

Whenever you have negative thoughts about yourself, reframe it by asking: "If my 4-year old self was right there, would I say this to their face?" If the answer is no, it's probably not a thought you should be having about yourself. You're still that kid, you gotta love yourself.
