Simon Davis @sdglyph.bsky.social · 13hJust reflecting on how design-led it felt, and how it started the Don Era for fanart and general TF comic art appreciation. It had an actual overarching aesthetic, not just individual cool designs. I'd struggle to recall the story (not shade) but those characters are still instantly recognisable. 040
Simon Davis @sdglyph.bsky.social · 09/10/2026This is how you know the AI features are popular and valuable to end users: when they have to trick you into clicking on them. Same principle as when you get junk mail disguised as a bill. 000
Simon Davis @sdglyph.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Well that's a fun new dark pattern in the YouTube UI - I see they've added an Ask Gemini button to the actions toolbar, and have coincidentally positioned it *right* where the Skip Ad button pops up. So if you go to click the Skip button just as the ad ends... 100
Simon Davis @sdglyph.bsky.social · 07/10/2026On a complete tangent from the OP, it's kind of cool how very identifiably `"between New Hope and Empire" thi ssounds. 000

Simon Davis @sdglyph.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Oh no, Dana sure doesn't have any opinions about Princesses, nooooo... (The comment about someone who is ostensibly a teenager getting run through the Merch filter definitely hit.) 010
Simon Davis @sdglyph.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Saw someone describe it as "RTD often struggles writing / empathising with minorities he personally isn't a part of" (re trans characters in Tip Toe) and felt that kind of nailed it. 010

Simon Davis @sdglyph.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Well those are some Lee Sullivan angry mouths, sure enough. 000
Simon Davis @sdglyph.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Never need to sleep, no contest... Wait, what's that monkey's paw you're holding out to me? 000
Simon Davis @sdglyph.bsky.social · 22/09/2026I thought some of the more abstract visuals, like the dreamscape imagery when Optimus was talking with The One, worked well and looked good. Not a fan of the character animation for the most part, but I tend to be quite demanding there anyway. No shade on others enjoying it though, just not for me. 040
Simon Davis @sdglyph.bsky.social · 22/09/2026eh, I'm afraid the visuals didn't do it for me either. Better than the Netflix trilogy, but still stiff and lifeless; and leading with a recreation of OP's death really emphasised, right at the outset, how much better it had looked in the movie we just watched. 140
Simon Davis @sdglyph.bsky.social · 22/09/2026It felt to me like the writer had some generic "war is bad, break the cycle" idea but made no distinction between an abstract forever war between two traditionally-opposed but morally equivalent camps and fighting to defend / protect others against a one-sided war of aggression and conquest. 030
Simon Davis @sdglyph.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Saw it yesterday and the best I can say is "probably well-intentioned". It's at least a better send-off for Cullen than all the Apology Tour stuff (probably) but the writing was incoherent nonsense on stilts. I genuinely couldn't tell you what message / point it thought it was making. 140

Simon Davis @sdglyph.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Or September 20 for the comic if you're British. May need to set up competing Orthodox traditions about it. Ironic that the comic / cartoon split between fans doesn't follow which iteration appeared first in their territory, really. 030

Simon Davis @sdglyph.bsky.social · 10/09/2026It's not - the author name is aligned with the crate in the image as though painted on it diegetically, not with the bottom edge of the book. This just looks like a typical Photoshop mockup of the finished book, which publishers have been doing as standard for years. 021

Simon Davis @sdglyph.bsky.social · 09/09/2026Sure, but two things strike me about this particular thread: first, the show DOES tackle serious topics seriously, but the discourse is always around topics it isn't trying to address; second, the level of seriousness needs to be in the context of what it is and who it's primarily talking to. 000
Simon Davis @sdglyph.bsky.social · 09/09/2026Weird, looked to me like various way-over-serious reads while *saying* the response was "it's perfect and you're bad" rather than "wait, what? How did you get there?" And this is why, while I love to see people being fans of things, I studiously avoid Fandom Discourse™ for the sake of my sanity. 100

Simon Davis @sdglyph.bsky.social · 30/08/2026The joys of multi-level writing - people watching it now and seeing all the themes and references they missed as kids (maybe! kids can be smart), but forgetting / not imagining the straightforward fun of seeing it at that age.
