I love writing games because I played Year Walk, Device 6, and the Sailor’s Dream in rapid succession my freshman year of college and they each shaped the way I approach narrative and inspired me to manifest those kinds of narrative. I still have my Sailor’s Dream notes on my lil memory corkboard

Is it too late to make our game a dating sim cuz we've got some real eligible bachelors in this particular puppy. 🥵 Sketch by @teletuu.bsky.social ! Pontifications of a geriatric accessory to war crimes by me. 😌 #VeloxTurbo2
Dialogue from our upcoming game that reads:
It's a sorry state, I've got to say.
When we knew our enemies, we were strong.
We tracked them. Understood them.
Surveillance was the key. Scrutiny.
Hell, the prosecution wouldn't have what they had without the damn Ring camera.
But our enemies successfully deceived us into resting on our laurels once the wall fell.
Too many people pretended the outward battle was over.
They reckoned it was time to turn inward.
The worst part? Our politicians agreed.
Perhaps the worst executive betrayal since the Bay of Pigs. One of our demon jurors, whose description reads:
The war hawk is not a boots-on-the-ground veteran but instead an ex-bureaucrat who simply valued America's prestige too much to scrutinize what kinds of war-crime-adjacent operations his department was overseeing. To this day, America is still the bulwark against communism and its constituent propaganda arms — even if the Soviet Union is long in the rear-view mirror. He also thinks LSD is a Soviet brainwashing drug, cuz we think that's fun. He claims to have “worked at the Pentagon” but it was the Starbucks inside.

Our lil jam team is chugging along, I thought I'd share one of the five jurors you'll meet in our game — he's utterly charming, ostensibly neutral, and a loyal servant to facts and logic. 😌 Shoutout to @jakeshepherd.bsky.social for the blurb and @teletuu.bsky.social for the sketch! #VeloxTurbo2
A silhouette of a demon. His description reads: The radical centrist academic is a mainstay of liberal and conservative columns and TV punditry alike. Despite their claims of neutrality, they somehow always end up agreeing with the conservatives. Don’t be fooled by this Harvard-educated WASP — they actually grew up in a little-known place in western Virginia (the western part of the state of Virginia, to be clear). Everyone in their hometown loves them, just don’t ask anyone about their book, “The Problem With Appalachia Is The People.” This demon loves a good debate, and one of the main problems with this country is that nobody will debate them. Backing up every sentence with an out-of-context quote or just straight up lying about what a study says, this demon doesn’t understand what everyone’s so upset about — they’re ”just asking questions.”

First 17 hours of Velox went exactly as smoothly as the first day of a four-day game jam should go. Fear not, these are not even spoilers 😌 #VeloxTurbo2

A snippet of a 1998 interview in which Iran’s then-President Mohammad Khatami says to CNN, “Alexis de Tocqueville… which is am sure most Americans have read.”

Hi! I'm Michael Smith, and I like to write interactive fiction. Choices and nodes and stuff! 😌 I recently revamped a jam game that I'm very proud of: It's called "Carcinogen". Play it in your browser here: scriptfinch.itch.io/carcinogen
A scary crab telling you, "The sooner you acclimate to these particular market conditions, the better." From my game, Carcinogen. A scary crab asking you, "Is that what's meant for all of us?" From my game, Carcinogen.

THE NODES 🥵 love me a good spreadsheet 😌 if you didn’t know
A planning spreadsheet for my game Talleyrand Simulator, which plots out when each of the game’s goals can be accomplished. A planning spreadsheet for my upcoming coal mining game, which tracks plot and character development across multiple in-game days.
