Zhai’a swallowed the lump of guilt that tried to constrict his throat as he left the pair of mages behind, intending to make for the airship landing in order to arrange for passage back to Gridania. He had, perhaps, omitted certain key details of his involvement with B’alith in his reports to the Seedseer Council, but he’d spoken or written no falsehoods in the course of his investigations. There was nothing about his conduct up until now that should be the cause of his unease.

So why was it, then, that he was unable to shake the feeling that he’d just been caught in a lie?

The tips of B'alith's ears went very hot. He had a sinking suspicion he knew exactly who Zhai'a was referring to, and did not especially relish the thought of the two of them having a conversation about anything—especially if that conversation was about him.
