The Kennedys have always squicked me out, but man, I feel for *this* Kennedy in *this* situation—he is no doubt rolling in his grave, looking a lot like this:
Edvard Munch’s The Scream.

This is most exciting! MYRIAD gets to be included among 50 bundled bi books of all flavors. A fun opportunity to discover books of genres/types we might usually miss in our siloed world. Love that for this bundle.

(There’s also this, which completely messed me up when I read it; Simon’s story of having to skip the English classes where it was discussed when he was a teen is shamefully true to life).

If you can't say which popular Italian opera features bangers like "E Strano" and "Sempre Libera", you don't get a whole-ass opera house named after you. It's that fucking simple. 😡

Had a couple of cool convos with Book 2 readers asking me about the odd line of French dialogue in there (kind of like Christie using bits of French when Poirot speaks). Tricky decision, but I made sure context lends the sense anyway. What are folks’ thoughts on using non-English in EN novels?

So wild revising this draft I wrote last century. My main character would have looked personally traumatized by his homeland back then to most US readers, and that was kind of the point. Recent events, however, make him seem super reasonable about his birth nation as he’s applying to renounce it.
Book passage (with BF name elided to prevent spoilers):

The officer glanced at [boyfriend]—at [boyfriend’s] soaring eyebrow. “Well, people change their minds and it’s a nightmare,” she said after a beat. “What if your future wife is American and you want to return home to start a life with her there? You’ll have absolutely no right of residency or employment, and certainly none of the unique freedoms, opportunities and protections afforded US citizens.”

It took a lot—a lot—not to make some kind of retort about the absolutely fucking inflated, mythic notion of American-only freedom and opportunity I was taught at school, never mind this so-called protection I saw little of growing up back there. What goddamn fucking protection was I afforded when I was fifteen years old? What fucking freedom was I ever afforded in William Hansen’s house? I wanted to curse this at her—at everyone working on Elgin Road. I wanted to mock the lie of American exceptionalism on that technically American bit of sod in the middle of Dublin, and holler Land of the Not-as-Free-as-You-Think-It-Is! at the staff and marines until my throat bled. I wanted to give the marine peering through the porthole at me the jauntiest middle-finger I could muster, but instead I pressed my passport in my hands and looked at [boyfriend].

Very pleased to confirm this for those of you who’ve been making my day recently by asking for more of Simon’s (mostly) cozy bookish, foodish, queerish world: Year Two revisions are done and it will be out this fall! And yes, it’s steamier than Year One. Get ready. 🔥 #booksky #queersky

Here's a plain wee oddball cover of mine courtesy of artist Ehsan. Not the typical cover for the not-typical story inside (hard to categorize, so using a familiar genre design might irk readers). I love it more each day and looking forward to seeing Ehsan's work for book 2.

Lots of talk of indie cover rn, particularly for genre. I asked my artist/designer to veer off *hard* from the expected because (1) I like oddball and (2) it felt fairer to readers, since MYRIAD is hard to categorize: contemporary fiction? romance? historical fiction? M/M? There’s no consensus yet.
A straightforward, kind of mid-mod cover design for Myriad: the silhouette of a man on top of a stack of books. Colours are mainly tan, with a grey inset box. It’s very boxy.
