I like the whole follow-up trilogy. The names are the most fascinating. All four books, and the shorter story too, have that Wonder for me that all Fantasy has when I was a kid and which I almost never find as an adult. Do you have a favorite?

I took these pics this last weekend and this weekend - 2nd and 1st weekends of October 2026. Last weekend was blue skies and a tree with red leaves only around the outer edges. By this weekend the red had permeated all but the innermost branches.

I've lived my whole life in the US PNW. Travel, sure. We have a ton of conifer trees. Those pics of valleys forested with nothing but deciduous trees turning red, orange and yellow every #fall? We don't have valleys like that, and hard to find an acre like that. This is our fall foliage.

Popcorn doesn't belong in the fantasy genre. Unless it's contemporary or urban fantasy. I mean, how are they frying it? If they have fryers, then where are the French fries, onion rings, fried chicken, fried Twinkies and all the rest?

Exactly my experience! This duology is extremely enjoyable. Even the parts that didn't have me genuinely laughing out loud and busting a gut IN PUBLIC had me grinning ear to ear. This is one of those that made me want to read faster to learn what happens &, simultaneously, slow down just to enjoy.

OMG! The cafe's barista gave me the pumpkin mug again! I'm irrationally excited whenever I'm lucky enough to get it. Yay! And with my partially eaten pumpkin streudel, Halloween sweatshirt and flannel jacket on, it's just the perfect fall morning. 😁🎃😁

I finished critiquing a book! My crit partner knows who they are and which book. Now to put my thoughts together and write up an overview for my crit partner. That will take a few days. Do others do this? I'll note my thoughts on character arcs, plot development, storylines, etc. #writingcommunity

I picked up a copy of @pdjeliclark.bsky.social's A MASTER OF DJINN. I listened to the audiobook when it came out, but it's remained one of those fascinating, Wonder-full stories in my mind ever since. I've had chances to pick up a paper/hardback before and, this time, I decided to do it.

Update: I'm home now! Well, back in my own neighborhood. Day 2 of a 4 day weekend, recovering from burnout. I visited this nice little bookshop called "Hidden Worlds", at Orenco Station in Hillsboro, Oregon. They opened a month ago and stock only scifi and fantasy. Nice owner, lovely bookshop.

Finally! A nice, cool #fall day. Temp high is to be 61 F, and maybe some rain in the next 3 hours. Much more fall, than the last few days in the mid - high 70s. A perfect day for a walk to the light rail and ride to the western end of the line to visit an area of PDX I've never been to.

Scott Lynch's *Lies of Locke Lamora*. I'd been reading fantasy for well over a decade by the time it came out, but the world felt real, lived in. Gave me that Wonder I'm always chasing. I hadn't experienced that with other books, still struggle to find it.

The first Hocus Pocus was another childhood fave. I haven't seen the second. Is it really the totally unnecessary, blatant money grab that it appears to be to me, forcing a sequel onto a story that was wrapped up, with every plot and storyline fully resolved by the first movie?

Funny story. I'd watched Addams Family the night before it was on in the cafe. Led to a fun discussion with a friend about those 90s movies VS Netflix's Wednesday, how we love both and how the casting choices were so different, yet so perfect for each.

What's your favorite #Halloween / #Fall (Autumn) movie from childhood? The cafe is playing children's Halloween movies of late. Last weekend it was The Addams Family (1991) and today it was Hocus Pocus 2 and then Casper (1995). The 1st and 3rd are among my childhood faves.

Here's #catpics #cats to brighten your day. Fable (ginger) and Myth (black) rarely play together, so it's exciting when they do! This went on for 1 whole minute and simply ended with both walking away. (Their play usually lasts for 10 seconds and ends with hisses and Myth escaping onto a cat tree)

I finished the big project Tuesday afternoon, so work was much better yesterday. Still, I need a break. Hey! what's that? 2 vacation days scheduled for next week? Let's just move them up to this week. Thank you managers! Now I get to kick back and relax all the way to Sunday. *Sigh. I need this.
