It goes under the radar just how young the current Northern Ireland team is: only two starters over the age of 23 years old, yet they combine for 220 caps in total and most of this line-up are regulars in the Premier League or Championship. The future is promising.

In the spring of 2019, a young man named Khvicha Kvaratskhelia lived alone at Lokomotiv Moscow’s training ground. All these years later, Khvicha's hustle has paved a new path for a faded icon: the Eastern European creator. The long read: bit.ly/dribbling-in...

I always wanted to be a writer growing up. Of course, I do write for a living, but working on pieces like this really emphasises the fact that I'm living the dream. Feature on Christ Inao Oulaï for @scoutedftbl.com: scoutedftbl.com/christ-inao-...

Christ Inao Oulaï can hear the music
A small Ivorian conductor has exploded out of Türkiye. Now in Serie A, can he sync a floundering Florentine orchestra?

“At a certain point in time in the music, you stop thinking about rhythm, and you stop thinking about tempo. You kind of just kind of get swept away in the feeling.”

When asked to choose his all-time XI, Christ Inao Oulaï’s midfield included Sergio Busquets, Pedri and Vitinha. The selection was telling. Inao is a 20-year-old Ivorian, a midfielder himself, who this summer arrived into mainstream attention by appearing in all four of Côte d’Ivoire’s World Cup games. He caught SCOUTED’s post-tournament attention by emerging with a flawless record for escaping pressure in an exciting and entertaining side. Spearheaded by the joyful attacking of Yan Diomandé, Nicolas Pépé and Amad Diallo, the Elephants won over many neutrals and only narrowly fell short against Norway and Germany’s late winners. Inao’s quality was particularly obvious against Germany: he made more touches, passes and won more duels than any of his teammates that day.

“Once he’d earned his boots, Inao gradually developed into a high-volume, ball-playing midfielder. While most in such a role offer security in possession by circulating sideways or backwards, Inao looks to make much more happen.”

Christ Inao Oulaï can hear the music. Over the summer, the world was introduced to a diminutive Ivorian conductor. Now, one of Africa's most exciting young midfielders must synchronise a floundering Florentine orchestra. @shelatneel.bsky.social investigates: bit.ly/hear-the-music

If Givairo Read hadn't missed five months of football through injury last season, he would've been one of the most sought-after young players in the transfer market this summer. He has almost everything coaches and clubs want from a full-back in the modern game.

"I believe it comes in the moment, it depends on the inspiration of your players. by Connor Holden.
Barco’s early career coincided with the flurry of excitement around ‘inverted’ full-backs [...] He was a creative player, much better with the ball than without it, but the positional freedom required to unlock his strengths invited the danger of physically superior wingers running at him [...] Now a new moment in his irregular career path beckons.

It’s the principle we’re on about. Academy players, those from your own community that have been at your club for years, shouldn’t be flogged off because it makes more financial sense. A system that incentivises that is wrong.

Victor Froholdt is a blonde blur of endless running. He is an über-intense, box-to-box midfielder that turns running into structure through clever third-man movement, simple passing sequences and constant box crashing. Middlesbrough really like shopping MLS, don't they? We'll be seeing increasing emphasis on MLS as a buying market for European clubs in the coming years, and Middlesbrough getting promoted to the Premier League with a core of MLS-developed players would only expedite that.

What we love about Bobby Clark is the way he injects tempo and energy with punchy mobility and passes that break lines, with the talent to escape tight spaces and take defenders out of the game, plus the anticipation to intercept play and snaffle second balls. He can contribute to every phase.
