There is much about automation to be regretted, but one thing that comes up rather frequently, is the automatic 'phenomenon' of my computer and accounts talking to me/us. My computer just wished me "Happy Birthday!" a day in advance. Oh well, let those things that do not exist perish utterly.

Like the kids in the video, probably most of us couldn't be made to care, but today is the fun 50th anniversary of U2. They played a live show at their high school where Larry Mullen Jr. put up a flyer looking for bandmates 50 years ago. Check it (new single, live in Dublin)! youtu.be/I_4GyvWXXhg

"Our one God, our only God, fierce in your goodness, holy and mighty in all that you do, we come yet again to you as people who have nothing to offer you but the confession that we want to live from your great, free mercy. We thank you that you invite and encourage us to come to such a place. You do not forget us; let us not forget you! You do not tire; let us not grow weary! You choose and desire what is right and wholesome for each one of us; protect us from our willful wants and desires!" - Karl Barth, "Fifty Prayers," trans. David Carl Stassen (Westminster John Knox Press, 2008), 30.

I stand by the notion of my most ‘viral’ tweet: Rob Bell was pretty much ostracized from the Evangelical sphere for merely suggesting the possibility that different views on hell exist. Today, I don’t think the proposers and believers in the restoration of all things suffer the same consequence.

I'm not a graphic designer or meme-creator. But a few weeks ago I watched Rainn Wilson's interview with David Bentley Hart, and this one moment really gripped me. What do you think?
Rainn Wilson: What do you hope for the future of Christianity as a whole?

David Bentley Hart: I’m hoping for vast historical failure — which has already happened — but, I mean, as long as the temptation of power, the discourse of rescuing civilization in which we love the preeminence of the throne and altar accommodations of the great age of Christendom more than we love the humility, and kindness and compassion of Christ . . . I want to see the whole project of Christianism, of Christendom, collapse under its own weight in an absolute, abject, historical failure so vast that the very words ‘Christian civilization’ will have to be nothing other than soup kitchens.

R.W.: Those are some mighty words. And then out of that collapse, out of the ashes rises the phoenix of what?

DBH: Maybe an actual attention to God as love, the love of God and neighbor as being the whole of the law and the prophets.

Wow! It is really a doozy to listen to Augustine's Confessions — it would probably be even much more of a doozy to read them. I'm listening to H. Chadwick's translation. It is wild to be 41 yrs old and encounter the 1600-yr-old confessions of a North African bishop when he was in his mid-forties.

A screen capture of 1 John 1:5-10. "This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not live according to the truth; but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us."
