James Wood has, at least for now, resolved one of his most exploitable weaknesses (and a key cause of his 2025 2nd half collapse) in a BIG way.
in 2025, breaking balls in 2-strike counts crushed Wood.Wood has utterly excelled against 2-strike breakers over the last several weeks.

Rooker was strong v breakers in 2024 and 2025, so this is a return to form, not something new.

Brent Rooker has struggled in 2026 compared to expectations, and one reason might be that just 24% of the pitches he has seen are four-seamers and a whooping 32% are sliders. But I got good news for A's fans and fantasy folks - Rooker is adjusting
Brent Rooker is improving against breaking balls per Pitcher List's Process Plus metric

Those sweet sweet rolling charts can help! It's a bad stretch for Naylor, but we've then them before and everything turned out fine.

At this time last year, Logan O'Hoppe, Tommy Edman, and Wilmer Flores had 5 HR and Kristian Campbell was a top-20 hitter. This 10-12 game sample and a random 10-12 game sample at any point in the season are not different. One is not more meaningful than the other.

One of my biggest takeaways from the weekend? You can still run like crazy against the ChiSox. Activate your Marlins speedsters this week.

Nixing RBI hurts some of the pure power guys as it was a place they got a key advantage. It also takes away a key weakness for leadoff guys or on bad teams. SUPER fats and loose but J. Duran, Rooker, and Reynolds come to mind as guys who move up. Elly, Caminero, and Machado move down.

Well we do have an auction calculator and live draft assistant at Pitcher List for members! Otherwise, there are two things you use a free auction calculator, like the one at FanGraphs, and see which players get a boost. Bats 1-3, 10% walk rate, blasts doubles, these are the types who move up.

Indiana gets the #1 seed in the CFP and is rewarded by having to basically play a road game. Make Bama drive up to cold-ass Bloomington for the holidays and play against what would be an INSANE crowd for the Hoosiers.

You'd never know it by the narrative, but Junior Caminero hit more home runs on the road than in the extremely power-friendly park he called the home in 2025. His power plays everywhere, and the decision-making should improve with time.
Junior Caminero had elite power in 2025.

If you want to get pumped on Jorge Polanco and his small sample playoff doesn't do it for you, maybe this rolling K% chart will help. The 2025 version of Polanco can be a dangerous presence in the middle of the order if he keeps that 2025 trend.
Jorge Polanco's strikeout rate significantly improved at the start of 2025 and stayed that way all season.

That's why I get in early! Less competition for that title here in October. 😅. Also because Nick makes me. But seriously thanks so much - means a ton coming from someone who I've been reading and learning from for over a decade.

Do you know who led the Mariners in stolen bases from Aug 1 to the end of the season? Hint: He was 2nd on the team in steals in July with 5...in 6 total games.

Scott Chu @scottchu.pitcherlist.com · 08/09/2025
It's OK to drop Jakob Marsee in your fantasy playoffs. He will still take walks (because he's highly averse to swinging the bat) and steal bases, but the rest is - at best - a question mark.

Ward is a must hold in deeper 12s for me, but I'm shallower 12 (like 3 OF), you can see what the wire has.
000
Scott Chu @scottchu.pitcherlist.com · 08/09/2025
Gotta leave Elly in. Marsee, in shallower leagues, could be cycled out if there's something that looks helpful on the wire. We have little reason to believe that Marsee will find that power again and while he will find a way to walk and run, that might be about it.

Scott Chu @scottchu.pitcherlist.com · 23/08/2025
Jakob Marsee has been amazing this far and has earned the results. You should absolutely keep holding, BUT there are some signs that an adjustment period might be coming. How he handles it will tell us a LOT about what to expect in '26.
Jakob Marsee's Decision Value+ has taken a nosedive

If this was a spike in K% or bad contact or something, I could see that narrative of "out of rhythm due to no PT" but he's as good as ever at the dish in terms of decisions and contact and raw power.

Scott Chu @scottchu.pitcherlist.com · 22/07/2025
For what it's worth, this is almost EXACTLY how it all played out last season
110
Scott Chu @scottchu.pitcherlist.com · 22/07/2025
Perhaps something is missing here - under the hood, even for this yucky period, the under the hood is AWESOME. Yet the results are lame and it has cost him a lot of PT. In a 12-teamer, is what he did in April enough to keep holding when the waiver wire has decent options? That's the question.
100
Scott Chu @scottchu.pitcherlist.com · 22/07/2025
He has a lot more bad weeks than good ones. Since May 1, so for most of this season, it's a 99 wRC+ hitting .219/.303/.404. The stuff under the hood is really strong, even during that period. Just the results are bad. Might just be bad luck, but good golly that's a long time to be this unlucky.
100
Scott Chu @scottchu.pitcherlist.com · 22/07/2025
But even when he plays the results have been lackluster despite the fantastic quality of his plate appearances. It's bizarre.

Scott Chu @scottchu.pitcherlist.com · 22/07/2025
At what point does doing everything right no longer matter? Because that's the story of Ben Rice for fantasy baseball right now. Great power, great contact, great swing decisions, mid results. Deep leagues it's an easy hold, but 12-teamers? Yeesh.

In brighter news, the incredible revival of Marcus Semien after 100 games of looking washed is being driven by consistently strong decision-making and this rediscovery of how to make great contact
Marcus Semien's Contact Ability+ went from the 10th percentile to the 90th percentile very quickly

Scott Chu @scottchu.pitcherlist.com · 06/07/2025
There ARE positive things happening for Tyler Soderstrom, like a rebound in his contact ability; however, there's also this and it's very sad. Power+ can be volatile but hoo boy.
Tyler Soderstrom's rolling Power+ has gone from above the 90th percentile to almost the 10th percentile.

This was also my read on Caglianone though I hadn't pulled the charts. Classic power bat with an aggressive approach. He doesn't have to be Juan Soto, but he'll need to lay off the bad stuff to move forward.

It's very, very good. I rank him as the 7th best hitter for fantasy.

Scott Chu @scottchu.pitcherlist.com · 04/07/2025
Why have I held steadfast in my belief that Spencer Torkelson will be a solid player all season? Even though his ability to make contact fluctuates, he makes fantastic decisions at the dish. As long as he keeps doing that, the power can shine through.

"Whoa, what's going on with Gary Sànchez?!" The same thing that has been going on for 2+ years, actually. It just doesn't look that interesting by the end of the season.
Gary Sanchez has oscillated between very high and very low rolling wOBAs almost like clockwork over the last 2 seasons

Scott Chu @scottchu.pitcherlist.com · 02/07/2025
If you started Marcus Semien from day 1, you'd have the 20th best second baseman. He was one of the worst regulars in baseball with a .484 OPS through 56 games), so bad that he still needs another amazing month to undo the damage. So, were you wrong if you dropped him?
020
Scott Chu @scottchu.pitcherlist.com · 16/06/2025
The one thing that stands out to me with Pete Crow-Armstrong's breakout is this gradual growth in his ability to make contact in the zone. It moves somewhat tightly with his rolling wOBA and tells a pretty good story about his growth so far in his career.

Scott Chu @scottchu.pitcherlist.com · 14/06/2025
Consider Jo Adell in the midst of a breakout WATCH, but not yet a WARNING (stealing meteorology terms). All the conditions are here - improved decision-making, plus contact (most important element for him), and that consistent sweet sweet power. If conditions hold, take cover.
Jo Adell's Process+ from Pitcher List shows excellent power with improved decision-making and contact.

Junior Caminero's production took off like a rocket and the reason why isn't terribly complicated - he just got the ball in the air. When that FB% is north of 35-40%, he can put up elite numbers.
