the flip side is i totally understand people wondering what the entire fucking point is in learning anything related to the web when they’re being told every day that their skills aren’t valuable and their tools will build everything for them. it’s a wild time to be asking folks to pay for courses.

i’ll still add to the course and i’ll still write what i hope is useful stuff because teaching and learning is so fundamentally human and i adore it. but it’s all on time that i have to sneak in between whatever is paying the mortgage and topping up my dog’s treat supply.

a couple of years back i was paying my rent with book royalties. my latest royalty cheque was like £6.42 or something. course brings in passive income but i don’t even want to know what my hourly rate would’ve been if i calculate it. teaching is lush, but intrinsic reward doesn’t pay bills.

a lot of us out here putting in a tonne of effort to teach folks useful shit with just wildly diminished pay-off for the effort, even compared to a few years back. i think there's a bunch of reasons for this, most of which makes me incredibly grateful for folks who do invest in learning new shit.

designers were already seen as buzzkills and bottlenecks because good design is about slowing down and thinking. everyone wants to go very fast and no one wants to fucking think. 'human in the loop' didn't even work when you collaborated with other fucking humans.

one thing that i've noticed has just gone away in The Age Of Shipping Six Thousand Fucking Pointless Features is the purposeful pessimism that helps you realise how your work could be used for harm. it was never popular, but now it's almost fucking impossible to get people to slow down and think.

i worded this really badly. i am specifically looking for a package/util that can help parse DTCG JSON (preferably with strong types) so i can then _do the things_ with the parsed data (e.g. auto-populate a table with a list of color tokens). i am not looking for a design system/token platform.
