Visited the Victorian classroom at Lancaster Judges’ Lodgings today. As a primary teacher, I found it fascinating seeing the old desks, slates, ink pens and teaching resources. It definitely got me thinking about how much teaching has changed! 👩‍🏫📚

Today’s my hometown’s Gala. Two of my new pupils are part of the retinue this year and I just saw them go past in their carriage. One of them saw me and tapped the other and said “look, it’s Miss Stewart!”, whilst waving frantically at me. My heart melted at that point. 🥹😍

Finally finished watching #Reunion featuring Matthew Gurney & Rose Ayling-Ellis. I was engrossed in it all the way through. I want more! I was also impressed with Lara Peake who played Gurney’s daughter. Her BSL was good & you wouldn’t know that she had no BSL skills before being cast in this drama.

Just finished watching #reunion by @wlmager.bsky.social and oh my goodness! It’s so good. Love seeing #BSL being used in a mainstream tv drama and the fact it featured Deaf people. I’ve always liked him but Matthew Gurney is AMAZING in this drama. Nice to see a cameo from @thisduffy.bsky.social too.

Enjoyed today’s workshop on using digital pedagogy. Explored using bee-bots and micro-bits, especially the bee bots which was fun. Tried spelling my name out with the bee-bot which went well until I realised that I’d missed out a letter in my name… 🤦‍♀️ should I be a teacher??! #uoepgdep

Yesterday, I taught a BSL lesson entirely in BSL without any voiceover from me or the interpreter. My mentor teacher said that she’s never seen the class stay so silent for 30 minutes! They were so focused and engrossed with #BSL #uoepgdep #languages

Today at the school, we had family Friday where the family/carers of our pupils came in to see their children’s work and just spend time with them, doing some work together in the classroom. I love this concept as it brings everyone together. #uoepgdep #placement

First week of placement #2 is complete. I love the school I’m at. Tollcross is such a diverse school with children of different nationalities/ cultures. It’s a tight-knit school and the teachers are very supportive.

“There’s been a murder…” (I dare you to say this in Taggart’s voice!) This afternoon, we were treated to a CSI style science experiment at Moray House, where we came across a crime scene in our classroom and we had the responsibility of investigating who committed the murder.

This is premised on so many flawed assumptions including that: 1.) sign languages are wild human gesticulations as opposed to fully developed languages 2.) sign languages and close captions are mutually intelligible 3.) there couldn’t possibly be Deaf individuals at the actual press conference
