Bram Stoker should have written Dracula 2: Even Draculer which takes place during the rest of the year, so that Dracula Daily could have had material year-round

You can feel that both Jordan Peele and Zach Cregger both have a background in sketch comedy when watching their movies, but you can also tell that only one of their shows was actually any funny

Hack-ademy Ratio: For movies that are shot in 1.37:1 because the hack director thinks that it makes them seem more serious as an artist, and not because they actually know how to compose or block for a taller aspect ratio

"Father's Old Blue Cardigan" by Anne Carson, From Men in the Off Hours
FATHER’S OLD BLUE CARDIGAN

Now it hangs on the back of the kitchen chair
where I always sit, as it did
on the back of the kitchen chair where he always sat.

I put it on whenever I come in,
as he did, stamping
the snow from his boots.

I put it on and sit in the dark.
He would not have done this.
Coldness comes paring down from the moonbone in the sky.

His laws were a secret.
But I remember the moment at which I knew
he was going mad inside his laws.

He was standing at the turn of the driveway when I arrived.
He had on the blue cardigan with the buttons done up all the way to the top.
Not only because it was a hot July afternoon

but the look on his face—
as a small child who has been dressed by some aunt early in the morning
for a long trip

on cold trains and windy platforms
will sit very straight at the edge of his seat
while the shadows like long fingers

over the haystacks that sweep past
keep shocking him
because he is riding backwards.

this truly does not matter because it ultimately doesn't end up on the screen, but i find it sooooo corny when film/tv scripts are published and they have a bunch of quirky jokes and or gimmicks written into the stage direction

Like Seehorn’s performance and her character I find very compelling, I do like the show a lot, but I don’t think anyone else in the cast is working anywhere near the same level as her and they frankly don’t have much material so far. Especially compared to BCS which had such a strong ensemble

How far did you watch? Carol being an outlier is complicated some in second half of the season because of how her relationship to Zosia develops and seeing more of Manousos’ mindset imo. But just how thinly drawn drawn everyone aside from Carol are is kind of my main hang-up with the show

Like I would enjoy that kind of moral ambiguity but it’s not something that I really see at the moment. They killed 100s of millions of people and are Sci-Fi Conversion Therapists lol. Easy to say “there’s no more conflict” after you kill or forcibly convert all of The Other

When I see Vince Gilligan talk about ‘maybe the hive has a point’ it just makes me worry because I think if the show wants to set that up as a moral dilemma it has not done a good job of it

One of those cases where anyone less charming than Tony Dalton in the role would have totally sunk it, but because he is so good it works

Finn @sconesaregood.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Like the parts where he doesn't need to sleep and can take out Spec Ops Assassin Squads single-handed are pulpy to a degree where he sticks out from the relatively grounded place everyone else is. But that's also why he's so fun, it really shakes things up in the second half of the show

Finn @sconesaregood.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Lalo but for me is more of a really fun, almost superhuman, straightforward antagonist than a deep character. Like I love him but not because I think his motivations or internality are super compelling, but because he's so charming and drives the plot in such unexpected and exciting directions.

BB is genuine lightning in a bottle! But only BCS has Kim and Chuck and those are the two most compelling characters out of either show, and it has the better final season + finale, so. Let's hear it for Jimmy McGill.
110
Finn @sconesaregood.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
BB being first has the novelty of the premise, setting, and cast while not being boxed in by being a prequel. That counts for a lot for a show! It takes the first two seasons to become as good as people remember it as but it always gets lot out of being exciting and genuinely unpredictable.

Finn @sconesaregood.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
The Legal side of the plot is safe from this but the Cartel side suffers from it, because those characters either already had their finish in BB (Mike, Gus) or simply have to die for the plot to make sense (Nacho, Lalo) and they didn't always manage this especially gracefully in s6
110
Finn @sconesaregood.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
BCS is just better made. BB isn't bad by any means but the shot composition, blocking, lighting in BCS (and Plurb) are on a higher level. But it also stumbles in a few places where "oh yeah this is a prequel" rears its head and they have to fit the show into what's already established
110
Finn @sconesaregood.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
I do feel Better Call Saul is absolutely the better overall show but there is a dynamic where comparing it to Breaking Bad can never be "fair". BCS has the benefit of established characters to build off of and the crew's skill developed over the course of making BB--
