Six day comment period a bit insulting. Project docs (found elsewhere as published Box folder URL is invalid here) state “It is anticipated that it will take approximately 3 to 5 years to complete actions associated with this project.” Only 6 days can be spared for a 3 to 5 year response? C’mon.

The thing is, they were caught blatantly misrepresenting the facts on this project and that immediately makes me doubt their 42 Divide project for the same reason. That project also targets mature/old-growth stands as well. The maps produced for both projects were sloppy and incomplete

This is such bullshit and Trump 2.0 has lived up to everyone’s anxiety. Even without this rule change, the public has been cut out using CEs & other cheats. Thankfully some FS Supervisors have chosen to still engage the public even when legally not required.

CD album cover of the fictional heavy metal band Bad News showing all four members of the band mugging for the camera. Bad News was a rockumentary episode of the British sketch comedy show Comic Strip Live from the 1980s (and predates Spinal Tap). Its members were Vim Fuego (played by Ade Edmondson) on vocals and lead guitar; Den Dennis (Nigel Planer) on rhythm guitar; Colin Grigson (Rik Mayall) on bass; and Spider "Eight-Legs" Webb (Peter Richardson) on drums.

It’s rare these days but some breaking GOOD news- the BLM is canceling the very controversial 42 Divide Timber Sale Project in Southern Oregon (for now). Oregon environmental groups were “all in” to fight this project & the EA produced was so shoddy
Screen shot from the Bureau of Land Management’s ePlanning NEPA project website for the 42 Divide project in southern Oregon. The latest project news is from July 1st informing the public that: “Due to external and internal comments, the BLM is cancelling the 42 Divide Forest Management Plan on this ePlanning page today, July 1, 2025. This cancellation will allow for more time to align this environmental analysis with the Endangered Species Act Section 7 consultation timeline. Please note that the "cancelled" designation refers only to its status in the ePlanning NEPA Registry, not its viability as a project. The 42 Divide Forest Management Plan will be reloaded onto ePlanning with a different NEPA number at a later date. The BLM will post a link here to refer the public to the new ePlanning site for the project. All comments collected with this ePlanning number will be retained in the project record.”

The BLM South River Field Office has released an updated Environment Assessment (EA) for the 42 Divide Forest Management Plan (42 Divide). The updated EA contains revisions to the May 2025 EA. The BLM's updated 42 Divide EA incorporates updated information and language to improve clarity. BLM has identified additions to the EA using (blue colored font). The BLM is seeking public comments on the updates in blue font in the updated 42 Divide EA. Please submit comments by 4:30 PM PST on June 30, 2025.
