23rd June- The Side Wound of Christ and Reproductive Trauma.

Mo (they/them) is a long time TTG and SCM member who likes to talk about big questions without finding too many answers and is a loudly queer, trans and disabled doctor. This session uses their interests in trauma-informed theology, which stems from their own experiences of religious abuse and reproductive trauma, to take a look at the side wound of Christ as a connecting point to God for those who have survived and experienced such things. Their favourite kind of church is one where they can laugh.

The 8th of May is the Feast Day of one of our favourite mystics, Julian of Norwich! But what's the story behind her famous saying that "all shall be well", and how might it speak to us today? Swipe to read more ➡️
A black and white depiction of Julian of Norwich, with the words "The feast day of Julian of Norwich" written around the outside."All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well". This is probably Julian of Norwich’s most popular and well-known quote - but where does it come from, and what does it mean for us today? Julian of Norwich was a 14th-century mystic of the Catholic Church. She’s known as “Julian” because, as an anchoress, she was cloistered in a walled cell, or ‘anchorhold’, attached to St Julian’s Church in Norwich. Around the age of thirty she became seriously ill, to the point where she was administered the last rites. However, at the peak of this sickness she had a mystical experience during which she received fifteen revelations, or “showings” from God. These “showings” included revelations about Christ’s suffering, and God’s motherly and unconditional love for us. Shortly after this experience, Julian made a full recovery from her illness and lived for another thirty or so years. In her thirteenth of these revelations Julian experienced while sick, she received an answer to a question about sin:

“In my folly, before this time I often wondered why, by the great foreseeing wisdom of God, the onset of sin was not prevented: for then, I thought, all should have been well. This impulse [of thought] was much to be avoided, but nevertheless I mourned and sorrowed because of it, without reason and discretion.

“But Jesus, who in this vision informed me of all that is needed by me, answered with these words and said: ‘It was necessary that there should be sin; but all shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well.'

“These words were said most tenderly, showing no manner of blame to me nor to any who shall be saved.”
