artofplay We'd like to clarify one additional detail about Kelly Clarkson's visit to our Curiosity Shop on Saturday.
During the 5 minutes she spent in the store, she inquired about our mechanical bird puppet named Molly. We explained that while Molly is permanently attached to the wall and serves as a de facto mascot for our shop, a nearly identical automaton is owned by the creator of the machines, a brilliant artist named Bliss Kolb who lives in Seattle. He told us he would be willing to part with Molly's twin for $15,000. We explained all of this to Kelly Clarkson.
We also offered to show her a different singing bird automaton, made by a traditional clockmaking shop in Germany, that she could have taken home with her that day. It costs about $2,000.
She did not stick around long enough to see it.
We've reached out to Kelly directly to try and clear the air. We really do wish her the best and hope that someday we can all laugh about this misunderstanding.

…Epic has separate fields for appointment times AND arrival times that allows your Add to Calendar button to work properly There is no need to use appointment instructions for that information or to make people do backwards time math. Some of us struggle with that

want to know what makes me angrier and angrier with the passage of time? comments like this in the appoint instructions, which makes the “Add to Calendar” button useless for knowing when you actually need to leave to arrive on time BUT THE INFURIATING PART IS…

Tidbit: I was clearing stuff off my tablet & one of MawMaw's letters...she wrote to PawPaw she was making ROASTENEAR & wished he was home to have some. Because she was a pretty good speller I looked up the word...it's corn on the cob. I never heard it called that before.

As someone who struggles with body positivity, something about this is quite lovely From Say The Thing by Kami Orange

I once posed nude for a local art class who advertised for figure drawing models. I'd never been naked in what felt like public before and was a little nervous about being able to hold still for the length of time they requested.

Settled comfortably on a divan, I listened to music and the soft scrape of pencils on canvas for 30 min-utes. At the first break, I walked around to see how the drawings were progressing.

One artist remarked, "I love drawing bodies like yours! They're so interesting! You're art!" as he gestured to the shadows and highlights on my fat rolls that he'd sketched.

As I sat for the next 30 minutes, nude in a room full of people looking intently at my body, I considered what he'd said. I'd previously tried the body positivity technique of declaring to myself, "My body is beautiful!" but it felt too far from my current belief of "My body is a problem."

The idea that my body is interesting? That I'm art?
My body is art?

That was the bridge I needed! After that day, I've used "my body is art" as a mantra whenever I feel less than stellar about my lumps, bumps, moles, acne, and stray hairs.

Art doesn't have to be pretty or perfect. It can be grotesque or boring or maddening. As long as it makes you feel an emotion, it's art. And that's my body. I am art.
