Why do we need a National Day for Truth & Reconciliation? Because the top of the government page about it carries a content warning & link to mental health support. If the history of what England & Canada did to your family and culture carries a mental health warning, we should be talking about it!

Ever get to such a point in losing the argument for "plain language" edits that you plop their whole manuscript into Excel to generate a report of how very long their sentences are? (Like that one!)

My own Olympic moment: my watch gave me 10s across the board for sleeping last night. #PB 🛌🥇 Never mind that the metric which I find makes the most difference to me is the length of _deep sleep_, in particular, and last night that was particularly short. 😝

Why editing costs "so much." The editing of 80,000 words typically takes: 100 hours structural/ developmental 64 hours copyediting OR stylistic/line 36 hours proofreading To pay a poverty wage for that time, that would cost roughly $9,000. To work with a coveted, credentialled editor, —1/3

Sound on – It doesn't quite translate through the mic, but skiing was so squeaky that it sounded like an elastic band orchestra. The giant snowballs on my ski poles made bullfrog sounds, but I was not able to capture that. (Please excuse my form, with one hand on the camera. 😝)

It's not just Newfoundland. 5 full countries (of ~200) chose time zones a half-hour off the hour. A few others use a 45 minute offset! *Nfld is a province in Canada, not a country.

As an avid #audiobook reader with 4 on the go and many colleagues doing the same, I'm surprised that BookNet stats say the share of buyers remains steady at 8%. Wonder if library audiobooks skew this. From: booknet-canada-aqx4.squarespace.com/blog/researc...
Line graph of purchases by Canadian book buyers (2019 to 2024) comparing (top to bottom) paperback (fluctuating between 45% & 55%), hardcover (steady 20% range), e-book (high teens dipping to 10% at end) and audiobook (steady 8%).
