Penciled up the hobbits in their last act disguises and livery for the big LOTR paper set

Frodo with a beaked helmet with iron hoops and an eye painted on it, sam wearing same. Pippin is in a winged helmet and Merry a wicker-and-leather one, holding a shield. Fairly tight pencils for a future drawing.

First draft, here, to get some of the idea down (saggy old belly hanging down between her legs, two big horns, lots of eyes, etc) before trying to do the drawing itself

I'm doing a toy-or-costume wooden sword-making class at the Makerspace next month and, while I ain't gonna have time to make samples for the class flyer, I can sure enough draw said samples. Pine lattice strips for costume version, Kentucky hickory for the wack-tree-trunks-and-each-other version.

I work hard at my art but I don't work near as hard as Beth Howland recording "Getting Married Today" for the Company cast album in 1970 does at hers

Hobbit Day (the shared birthday of the intergenerational Baggins boys) was yesterday, but I didn't post any hobbits! So here are some of the ones drawn up as part of the absurdly big LOTR set I've been doing this year, plus honorary hobbit Gandalf.

Watercolored drawings, with named bases, for the story-consequential hobbits present in the first half of FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING, and also Gandalf.

Every once in a while - big panels with crowds, for instance- it makes more sense to wing all of the details in the inks rather than penciling things out. Since the crowd doesn't have to be consistent from one panel to another - they're moving around - I can save myself a step.

Just put up this month's batch of LOTR paper figures (Gollum, Faramir's rangers, and the Harad ambushees) and the process sketches up on Patreon (one of the very few things I have behind a paywall)

This months LOTR set for Patreon had a big ol' empty spot on the print so I'm last minuting a couple of doomed-to-ambush soldiers of Harad

Elderly, three-legged Baxter chased this fella two feet up a tree and I feel like both parties were just kind of going through the motions rather than fully committing to the bit
