I think point 2 is maximally concerning. Anyone can purchase a maximally powerful gun and feel like a god, and that has been incredibly damaging to those individuals and to society. Soon anyone will be able to purchase (pay the tokens and write the prompt for) a maximally powerful computer program.

You can currently get cracked software that sometimes works well. It has risks. AI clones differ only in that (1) anyone can spend the money to have them made, without understanding whether they work safely or at all, and (2) that person thinks they actually made something.

I've been following along with all of these amazing pocket reviews and point 2 feels like a topic sentence! 1980 was a year for making the case, one last time, that "authenticity and genuineness has to triumph." The next year we got Reagan and the beginning of the Greed is Good decade.

This is not a great movie, and parts have aged poorly, but I love it. Like Paul Dooley in Breaking Away (less than a year before), Russell is an all-American honest huckster car salesman, conning his marks so earnestly that you have to cheer for him. Tom Sawyer in a bad suit.
