This is intellectual joy: spending my days with serious people turning their expertise into books that change the conversation. Excited to take that show on the road. Friday at #AspenIdeas, "The Book in You" workshop. But you can always tag us here with your questions on academic trade books.

Everyone on our team is sharing their favourite habit for a better academic writing life. In case you need help with a book this year, Stanford-trained historian Daniela is bilingual & works with both English- and Spanish-speaking scholars. scholarsandwriters.com/bio/daniela-... #academicsky
Daniela's headshot and 2 paragraphs: I love helping writers figure out what their book is all about––and shape those arguments into a compelling book proposal. But I like the fine-grained work too: sharpening ideas, clarifying structure, and polishing language. Favourite services: Book Proposals, Book Development, Developmental Editing.
“Read good fiction. It sounds obvious, but for overextended people, the case for it isn't self-evident. Reading fiction retrains our besieged attention. It reminds us to orient the reader before launching into interpretation. In good fiction, information arrives when it can be absorbed and when it matters.”

If you feel like you are doing everything EXCEPT writing the thing you really meant to write, bring on an editor or coach. S&W is just one of many options. Loads more on #academicsky Bonus: professional support services = tax deductible, so unload those big faculty bonuses before end of the year 🤣

Is there a better place to be an academic than in a Cambridge college garden? Gratitude to @newnhamcollege.bsky.social for a perfect open day experience. And 🥂 to all the academic mothers working hard to help the next generation of women find the right place to pursue their big ideas. #academicsky

Good morning academic writers! The Awkward Yeti reminds us we might want to consider this important first step. theawkwardyeti.com #academicsky
mountain with a sign that says "goal" at the top. Heat and brain characters are struggling at the bottom under a large rock that says "self doubt." Brain says "Maybe it would be easier if we put this down."

Sometimes on a late summer evening I look up from a desk out on the edge of England and contemplate the wider world. Then I marvel at all the good all the scholars all around the world do every day for so many people. literally #academicsky

How do you justify doing your academic work by not doing your academic work? Yesterday I was definitely thinking very hard about being a food studies scholar. 😀 #academicsky

Met this chap on a morning walk at an old Roman fort in East Anglia. He understands that to be outstanding in your field, you sometimes have to stop ploughing through your writing in the same old way and instead take a moment to contemplate your work's place in wider the world. #academicsky

Scholars & Writers working out of the UK for now. I am always thrilled by the delightfully awe-inspiring and completely intimidating grand spaces of academia.

This has truly made my day. Yes, please, more for this hashtag. Not technically a #campuscreatures but this little intellectual companion sang me a sea shanty while I was out on writing research.

Van reads "Writers Cleaning Service." Man stands on doorstep of house talking to another man: "The process is simple: you tell me to get some writing done and then, to avoid getting started, I clean your whole house."
