I would also be interested to discuss this further or see some of your radiation results, so whenever it works for you to have a chat or you have some results out, I would be happy about an email :)

Okey, nice! Yes, something like identifying the leads, broadly categorizing them based on widths, wind speed / direction, stability and cloudiness upstream, and then check impact on the sea-ice / TOA radiation downstream, would be my first instinct.

Thanks a lot! I unfortunately had not seen the figure before, sorry, would have been a great reference.. So cool to see these larger leads resolved in the model with the immediate impact on the atmosphere. Do you see anything regarding clouds / radiation downstream of the features too? Cheers

Meteorologist Matthew Cappucci flew into the eye of Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 storm that is projected to hit Jamaica. “It was equal parts scientifically stunning and horrifying from a humanitarian standpoint,” he wrote, flying in one of two groups of hurricane hunters. wapo.st/42XpWmq

Simply incredible imagery of Hurricane Melissa this morning as it approaches Jamaica.

We have a new preprint online at ESS Open Archive, under review at JAMES. We conducted LES to investigate how Arctic leads impact the moist static energy budget of the ABL and, for example, found that lead plumes are highly effective in removing heat via longwave radiation. doi.org/10.22541/ess...

🆕 The discovery of new complex organic molecules at Saturn's #Enceladus enhances the likelihood that the moon is habitable 🪐 On Earth, these molecules are involved in chemical reaction chains that lead to the more complex molecules essential for life. Read more 👉 www.esa.int/Science_Expl... 🔭 🧪 ☄️

Scientific illustration showing a cross-section of Saturn’s moon Enceladus. It features three labelled layers: An ice shell at the top, with visible cracks releasing jets of water vapour into space; an ocean in the middle, depicted as a large body of water beneath the ice; a rocky core at the bottom, shown emitting heat that may drive the jets. In the background, Saturn and its rings are visible in space.

So this is pretty amazing - yesterday EarthCARE sampled Hurricane Humberto straight across the eye! The eye of a tropical cyclone is small so a direct hit is rare: this is the first time EarthCARE has hit one after over a year in orbit! (Showing here also VIIRS on NOAA-20 for context.)
