It's wild to have a strong take on what's conscious (or not). If you have certainty about consciousness, you probably haven't thought about it enough. That's my most charitable read.

Prompt to GPT-6: I love the aesthetics of the original Shenmue. I also loved living, for a few months a couple summers ago, in Izumi, Tokyo.

Attached is the path I would regularly walk, at night, from Eifuku-cho station to the house I stayed at. Could you make a 3D version of this in the aesthetic of Shenmue?

Take your time. Go all out. Be accurate in the way Shenmue would be accurate — detailed but also dated. Nostalgic. Quiet.

If you can make it so I can walk through it, via a website… all the better. You can use Blender or whatever tools you’d like.

Weird line from The Verge's review of the Steam Frame: isn't the obvious answer Apple? iOS 27 will run on an iPhone 11!
Screenshot of the article, with a phrase highlighted: “I can’t think of a single company that’s ever supported hardware this way.”

I think it sucks that this ref decided not to bring his cards to this game. Seattle's injured one of our players — again — because they play the way they do and this ref couldn't hang.

Really blown away by all the cool things Apple found to do with the folding form factor: nightstand alarm clock! Outer display preview for the person your taking a photo of! Half-folded mode! Etc. Etc. Feels like 5 years of design thinking and eng work. Fantastically thorough. Lovely.

Really important critique, IMO:
mathstodon.xyz
Terence Tao (@tao@mathstodon.xyz)
I wrote recently about how the collection of good, fruitful open problems is now being mined in a non-renewable fashion, leading to the potential scenario of these problems becoming scarce. This may seem unintuitive at first, since the set of possible problems one could ask is infinite. Perhaps the following analogy can help: a country or region can suffer a critical shortage of drinking water while simultaneously being surrounded by a massive ocean. One can easily generate any number of open problems in mathematics at will, such as working out the 10^10^10th digit of pi. But the vast majority of such problems are not worth focusing attention on: they show no particular propensity to reveal any further insights or connections to other questions, or may either be too easy or too impossible relative to known techniques to learn anything from the exercise. GPT-6 Astra Plays Portal
This is the in-game recording of the Astra run with pause (thinking) removed. It does not represent how it plays in real time. The model controls Portal through mcp + a modified SourcePauseTool. The game stays paused while the model thinks; once the model sends an input sequence, SPT unpauses and executes it. 00:00 Chambers 00–01 05:04 Chambers 02–03 07:22 Chambers 04–05 09:40 Chambers 06–07 12:34 Chamber 08 14:34 Chamber 09 15:17 Chamber 10 17:37 Chambers 11–12 22:38 Chamber 13 25:10 Chamber 14 31:38 Chamber 15 42:32 Chamber 16 49:54 Chamber 17 1:02:59 Chamber 18 1:14:51 Chamber 19 & Escape — Part 1 1:26:05 Escape — Part 2 1:32:40 Escape — Part 3 1:44:21 Escape — Part 4 / GLaDOS GitHub repo for setup details, run logs, & config: https://github.com/cozyblaze/portal-agent Changelog: - Big refactor for SPT. Man: I almost can't believe how cool watching baseball in Vision Pro is. We need this for MLS! I'd take ten more years of Apple as broadcast partner if we can get this for MLS.

Seven years?!? (From @mattdoyle.bsky.social's fantastic newsletter.)
Screenshot of email newsletter:

“Sporting KC: They've now spent nearly $35 million in two windows under David Lee (with, potentially, that much more again to come over the next two days). Nine of 11 starters this past weekend were guys he brought in. They've taken one point from the past 18 on offer. Raphaël Wicky now has the worst PPG of any coach in MLS history with 50+ games managed. They remain on course to shatter the record for goals allowed, xGA, negative goal differential and negative xGD. They sold their best player to a desperate conference rival for just $6m, and saw him score a brace this past weekend.
Lee is 11 months into a seven-year contract.”

The over-the-top satire of previous GTAs never really worked for me. I get what it's trying to do, but something about it felt… empty. Not punching up, not punching down, just punching air. Anyway this new one's tone is something else, and I am *very* intrigued.

Not saying anything others haven't said already, but: Wow! KC really has a hole burning in their pocket! They definitely want to spend money on players, first and foremost, and secondly maybe those players will fit but mainly spend. the. money!

Still obsessing about Broadview 6. FBI testimony DOJ attempted to hide reveals they decided to focus on Joselyn Walsh NOT based on her conduct w/the SUV, but by googling, "guitar girl Broadview ICE," which would bring you to this post showing her playing music and complaining bc her guitar was shot.
BY MS. MECKLENBURG:
12 Q. Did law enforcement observe a girl

Did law enforcement Google "guitar

Did that post identify a girl with a

Abdul El-Sayed on capitalism: “I’m capitalist who just knows about capitalism. I have a bad habit of reading, I’m so sorry.”
We’ve spoken about capitalism versus socialism.

Do you want to talk about capitalism? Let’s talk about capitalism. Are you recording? Capitalism is about leveraging the laws of supply and demand to efficiently allocate capital expenditure to maximize value. When capitalism works, it’s because you have free entry and exit into markets. So if you believe in capitalism, you have to believe in government regulation to protect markets. In fact, right now, we have exactly the opposite. You don’t have to be a socialist to believe that you should be taxing billionaires their wealth. In fact, if you are a capitalist, you should believe in that. So, I’m capitalist who just knows about capitalism. I have a bad habit of reading, I’m so sorry.
