roles".
'. How did he envision the masculine role, then? "A real man provides discipline, and any talking back or acting out is asking for punishment," he said. Okay, but what else besides obedience does the real man need to feel loved? Bryan took a moment: "The feminists convinced women to be dominant. Where's the love in taking away a man's masculinity? Love isn't always in the cards when people don't know their roles. I'm trying to make enough money to support a family, which means I need someone who can be home and take care of everything there."

Currently finalizing 1970 in my albums list. Was looking at George Benson’s Other Side of Abbey Road. Probably omitting it from the final list, but it was such a pleasant, funky fun listen. I think particularly in counterpoint of Booker T’s take on Abbey Road from the same year.

current reading. I remember reading this 15 years ago for a 4th year history seminar, “women in nazi germany.” Then it was interesting and academic, now…..
book: Frauen : German women recall the Third Reich, by Alison Owings (Rutgers U.P., 1993)

Cover description: A white woman with dark hair looks directly at camera, her face is partially obscured by a swastika. Below her are three blonde-haired smiling children. Looming behind and right is a Nazi (soldier? officer?). In foreground, top and bottom bordering the image is barbed wire, giving the impression that woman and children are trapped behind it

This is my favorite anecdote from the wiki page. It’s just an inherently funny thing to say after fully like, a year of recording an album whose defining quality was supposed to be narrative cohesion?
The group spent April 1969 rehearsing a live version of the show at the Hanwell Community Centre in Ealing including a final run down of the entire stage piece on 23 April.[44] The running order was changed, and four songs ("Cousin Kevin", "Underture", "Sensation" and "Welcome") were dropped entirely.[89] Townshend later said the group "did the whole thing from start to finish and that was when we first realized we had something cohesive and playable."[90]

damn Delmarva Nature and Wildlife is NOT playing around
Folks who live in the DC-metropolitan area, also known as the DMV: We absolutely welcome you to join, but you do NOT live on Delmarva. DMV stands for DC/Maryland/Virginia and is used to indicate the DC metropolitan area, while Delmarva stands for the Delmarva Peninsula including Delaware and the parts of Maryland and Virginia that are on the Delmarva Peninsula as shown on the map below.

When you join, the Participation questions ask where you live and where you like to enjoy wildlife on the Delmarva Peninsula. If you live outside of the area you're asked to specifically acknowledge that this group is only for posts about Delmarva. If your answers or profile indicate that you live outside of Delmarva (including the DMV) and you don't acknowledge that the group is for Delmarva only, we decline your participation request. We welcome you to put in another request, but still need for you to acknowledge the geographic boundaries of the group so we're not then having to later decline your pito later decline your pictures of birds in your backyard in Bethesda or turtles on the trail in Takoma Park.
While there are different interpretation of the exact boundaries of the Delmarva Peninsula, for the sake of this group it includes everything in the following counties shown on the map below: New Castle, Kent and Sussex Counties in Delaware; Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne, Caroline, Talbot, Dorchester, Wicomico, Worcester and Somerset Counties in Maryland; and Accomack and Northampton Counties in Virginia.

So wherever you live, we hope you enjoy all of the amazing nature and wildlife of the Delmarva peninsula, and welcome you to participate no matter where you live, as long as you understand that all posts must be specific to places on the Delmarva Peninsula.

didn’t realize Country Joe and the Fish was a communism reference
Section from the Wikipedia page for Country Joe and the Fish.

“ED Denson, the co-publisher of Rag Baby, introduced McDonald to Chris Strachwitz, who owned Arhoolie Recording Studios, to self-produce the EP.[7] Sensing the band's potential, Denson assumed management control, and was responsible for [this passage is highlighted] coining the group's name—a reference to Josef Stalin and to Mao Zedong's description of revolutionaries as "the fish who swim in the sea of the people".[2] [end highlight] McDonald, who had recording experience, began utilizing Arhoolie Recording Studios to record four songs split equally between the band and a local folk musician, Peter Krug. It was during this time at Arhoolie Records that Country Joe and the Fish's folk sound and political protest prowess—an amalgam of their own Guthrie-influenced material and their folk music roots—began to emerge.

an image of SpongeBob atop their pineapple home, a conflicted expression on their face. Their mouth is open suggesting they are speaking. The text “I’m ugly and I’m proud” appears over their head, only the word “ugly” has been amateurishly blacked out and the word “mid” is pasted over, so the phrase now reads “I’m mid and I’m proud”

always fun reading the wikipedia page for the album I’m listening to. feels like reading liner notes but way juicier lol
Excerpt from the wiki article on The Rolling Stones album Aftermath (1966).

The excerpt describes how Brian Jones’s relationship with his girlfriend Anita Pallenberg, intimidated the other band members, caused huge band tensions, and eventually resulted in a love triangle between Jones, Pallenberg, and Keith Richards, but also sparked a sea change in Jones’s approach to music that was a huge catalyst in the band breaking away from being a simple R&B cover group.

I mean look at this list! this just goes up to 5/1, and doesn’t include, oh I dunno, Pet Sounds, Blonde on Blonde, Revolver, Freak Out!, Wild is the Wind, or Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators. I’m so friggen excited
screenshotted excerpt of an excel list of albums from 1966 that I’m listening to. List is 32 items long and includes a variety of different artists and genres.

I don’t know that I can include the whole list, im sorry it’s not very accessible. Comment, and I can include a link if you want to read through it in detail

jazz is so fucking cool dude
snip of passage from the Wikipedia entry for the album Rip, Rig and Panic by Rahsaan Roland Kirk

“The title of the album was explained by Kirk in the liner notes as follows: "Rip means Rip Van Winkle (or Rest in Peace?); it's the way people, even musicians are. They're asleep. Rig means like rigor mortis. That's where a lot of peoples mind are. When they hear me doing things they didn't think I could do they panic in their minds". Kirk made many references to pioneers of jazz. "No Tonic Pres" refers to Lester Young; "From Bechet, Byas, and Fats" is a homage to Sidney Bechet, Don Byas, and Fats Waller; and "Once in a While" was inspired by Clifford Brown. Kirk also mentioned the work of Edgar Varèse, the compositions Poeme electronique and Ionisation, as inspiration for the album.”
