Per Russian media, “Russian sources expect that as well as purchasing Russian oil and diesel, Donald Trump will provide Russia with spare parts to repair the refineries damaged by Ukrainian drone strikes. They anticipate that Trump's fuel deal will lead to a Russian victory.”

I don't see anything erratic here. For over a decade, Trump has prioritised "getting along with Russia"; since 20 January 2025, Trump administration policy has reflected that priority. It's perhaps the most consistent aspect of Trump foreign policy. 🧵on Trump and sanctions.

New primer about the news from the last few hours that the US is getting back to business with Russia. This is not Trump being erratic, it is not about diesel, it is not a small move. It is about the US moving to a more active position of helping Putin. phillipspobrien.substack.com/p/this-is-ab...

Because Canada's baseline export volume to the US is so massive, a modest 4% bump in Canadian production and pipeline flow would equal roughly 36-40M barrels over that same timeframe, completely offsetting Russian supply.

So let’s stop entertaining the notion that the whole saga has anything remotely to do with offsetting diesel prices.
