"The persistent incongruence between molecular clock estimates of animal terrestrialization and the fossil record could be attributed in part to preservation biases" If only someone would quantify the probability that said preservation biases explain those early-Paleozoic molecular estimates. 😭😭😭

I analyzed this from a more geological perspective here doi.org/10.1098/rspb... and from a more phylogenetic perspective here doi.org/10.1093/biol... , in case either is of interest.

Abstract. Concurrent gaps in the Late Devonian/Mississippian fossil records of insects and tetrapods (i.e. Romer's Gap) have been attributed to physiologic

People have found chilopods and arachnids in Devonian rocks, which raises the question of how insects would evade preservation while critters made of the same stuff got preserved. If wings caused insects to diversify & become abundant, why don't we ever find them in Devonian rocks?

I got an e-mail from them about one of my preprints over a month ago, with no mention of an IRB and no discussion of what will happen if I do not consent to being part of this study.

My first post. For today's #SciArtSeptember prompt (tawny) I'm sharing two linocuts I printed with diluted umber ink. I'm working on a series where I draw under-appreciated arthropods and other inverts into scenes from Aubrey Beardsley's illustrations from The Legend of King Arthur.
It's me (a woman with light skin and dark, wavy hair) holding a lino cut of a remipede emerging from the water next to a castle, printed in tawny brown ink on off-white paper. It's me (a woman with light skin and dark, wavy hair) holding a lino cut of a paurpod towering over a stylized forest, printed in tawny brown ink on off-white paper.
